Heavy rain and strong winds lashed Delhi and several parts of the National Capital Region on Monday as monsoon activity intensified across North India and other parts of the country. Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad also witnessed heavy showers, with waterlogging and traffic disruptions reported in several areas.

The weather affected air and road traffic in the region, with 12 flights diverted from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport to Jaipur International Airport. The India Meteorological Department has forecast more rain in Delhi-NCR and neighbouring areas, while heavy rainfall is also expected in parts of Uttarakhand, Odisha and Telangana.

Orange Alert Issued For Gurugram And Faridabad

The IMD has issued an orange alert for Gurugram and Faridabad, warning of heavy rainfall in the two districts. Residents have been advised to remain cautious as continued showers could lead to further disruptions.

Heavy rain was reported across several parts of Noida, including Sectors 16, 39 and 95. The showers brought relief from heat and humidity but also added to the disruption caused by the adverse weather.

Ghaziabad also experienced heavy rainfall, with waterlogging reported near the Industrial Area underpass on NH-9. Several cars and two-wheelers struggled to cross the waterlogged stretch, while some motorists parked their vehicles along the roadside until the water receded.

12 Flights Diverted From Delhi Airport

Weather conditions at Delhi airport disrupted flight operations, with 12 flights diverted to Jaipur International Airport, according to information available so far.

The diverted flights included 6E 404, IX 1462, IX 1047, AI 4308, AI 2526, IX 1236, IX 136, SG 126, AI 1814, 6E 6125, 6E 2102 and AI 2381.

The IMD has forecast further monsoon showers in Delhi-NCR and surrounding areas. Heavy rainfall is also likely in parts of Uttarakhand, Odisha and Telangana.

Traffic Disrupted Across Delhi-NCR

Rain-related traffic congestion was reported in several parts of Delhi, including MB Road near Sangam Vihar. The stretch between Vayusenabad and Sangam Vihar witnessed particularly slow movement, with some commuters reporting being stuck for nearly an hour.

The congestion affected people travelling towards Delhi airport, offices and Saket Court. Commuters said traffic in the area frequently worsens during rainfall.

An Air Force employee travelling towards Vayusenabad station said traffic delays in the area often affect employees travelling to work. He said Monday’s congestion left him stuck for around an hour.

A passenger travelling to Delhi airport said he had been caught in traffic for around 30 minutes and was concerned about missing his 1 pm flight. Another commuter said he had spent nearly an hour in the jam without being able to proceed.

Traveller AS Mohammad said he was scheduled to reach Saket Court at 10 am for a court hearing but remained stuck in the traffic.

Ghaziabad Waterlogging Adds To Commuter Woes

Waterlogging near the Industrial Area underpass on NH-9 in Ghaziabad further slowed traffic. Several vehicles became stuck in the accumulated water, while motorists waited along the roadside for conditions to improve.

Pedestrians were also forced to seek shelter under the underpass, trees and other covered areas as heavy rain continued.

With more rainfall forecast in Delhi-NCR and adjoining regions, authorities and commuters could face further waterlogging and traffic disruptions, particularly in low-lying areas.

Despite the disruptions, the rainfall brought relief from the prevailing heat and humidity across parts of the region.
