A Delhi couple bled to death after being trapped for nearly eight hours inside their crushed WagonR on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Nuh, police said. The accident, caused by an unidentified heavy vehicle ramming the car from behind, occurred between 11:30 pm and midnight on Tuesday near Nowshera village.

The victims were identified as Laxmi Ram, 42, a contractual laborer, and his wife Kusumlata, 38. They were returning home from Hindaun in Rajasthan’s Karauli district when the collision happened. The impact pushed their grey Maruti WagonR into the metal crash barrier, leaving the car mangled beyond recognition.

Police reached the scene only around 7:30 am on Wednesday, after a passerby reported the wreck. By the time authorities arrived, the couple had died from injuries and blood loss. Investigators noted that Laxmi Ram appeared to have held onto his wife in their final moments.

Inspector Praveen Kumar, Station House Officer of Nuh Sadar police, said, “Two heavy vehicles have been flagged on the footage; we are tracing the owner of those and should nab the accused soon.” He also expressed frustration at the apathy of night-time travelers, “Police came as soon as they were alerted, indicating that night drivers merely drove past.”

Couple Leaves Four Children Orphaned

The couple leaves behind four young children two sons and two daughters. The family lives in Budh Vihar, Delhi, and the tragedy has left their relatives devastated.

Laxmi Ram’s father, Devi Singh, recounted the moment he learned of the accident: “I called my son at 8:56 am, then the Jaisinghpur post people picked up the phone and told me that your son and daughter-in-law have met with an accident and died.” He added with heartbreak, “Overnight, my life has changed. Who will look after the four young children?” Singh, a small farmer with a few buffaloes, expressed deep concern about supporting his grandchildren’s future.

The Nuh Sadar police have registered a case against the unidentified driver for rash driving and causing death by negligence under sections 106 and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. CCTV footage from the expressway is being analysed to identify the vehicle responsible.

The post-mortem examinations were conducted at the Government Medical College and Hospital in Nalhar, and the bodies were handed over to the family. Cremation was held on Thursday morning after the couple’s remains were brought back to their village.
