CSR: Tata Chemicals Society for Rural Development organises cricket league for locals in Mithapur, Gujarat
Mithapur, India: Tata Chemicals Society for Rural Development (TCSRD) organised Mithapur Premier Cricket League for the youth of Okhlamandal from March 15-26, 2023.
The tournament saw participation from 22 teams and 452 players from the area. There were 6 women teams out of 22. A total of 40 matches were played in the battle for the title. The tournament was inaugurated by Mr. N Kamath, Chief Manufacturing Officer and Site Head, Tata Chemicals, Mithapur, in presence of Sarpanch from nearby villages.
There were also nine exhibition matches between NagarpalikaTaluka, Police, Rural School Teachers, Taluka Panchayat, Mamlatdar Office, Dwarka-Okha Court Office.Five women’s teams from TCSRD, Uday Foundation, TCL & local SHGs also participated in this tournament.
The closing ceremony of the tournament was held on March 26, 2023. The chief guest of the event was Mr. Pavubha Manik (MLA,Dwarka) and special guest was Mr. Bhima Khunti (Indian Wheel Chair Cricket Player). The Sunrisers team was declared the winner of the tournament (men).
The winning team beat Super Kings by nine wickets. Mr. Jaideep was named Man of the Match, and the Man of the Series title was given to Mr. Arvind Athal. In the women’s tournament, SHG team bagged the title. The team won by 11 runs in a super over. Ms.Sehnazben was named Player of the Match and the Player of the Series title was given to Ms. Priya Samani. This is the first time women’s teams participated in MPCL.
Speaking about the event, Mr. N Kamath said, “At Tata Chemicals, we constantly endeavour to engage with youth. Sports are a great tool for character building, this tournament is one such attempt. Recreational activities like this give youngsters an opportunity to interact with other youngsters and provide them with a platform to showcase their talents. We are elated to see such huge participation in this. I am certain this tournament will act as a good medium of bringing people of Okhalmandal together.
Talking about the event, a local from Okhlamandal said, “It is good to see a company like Tata Chemicals organise such events. Tournaments like these encourage youngsters to explore their interests.”
