CSR: Police personnel take part in a Fungal Infection Treatment Camp held in Mumbai
Mumbai, India: The Debabrata Auro Foundation (DAF) in collaboration with The Esthetic Clinics organized a fungal infection check-up camp at Sion, Matunga, and Ghatkopar Police Stations. The aim was to conduct thorough check-ups for most policemen, diagnose any existing fungal infections, and provide them relief by improving their quality of life.
Fungal infections are rising alarmingly and are commonly seen on the skin, and nails, and in serious cases can spread to various internal organs. These infections also lead to frustrating and embarrassing symptoms such as itchiness, redness, pain, rash, or discharge. Timely treatment is key to managing these infections. If not treated appropriately by an expert, they can become resistant to routine anti-fungal medicines and can be extremely difficult to treat in such cases. Since they are contagious, it is a public health issue as well and need prompt treatment.
Policemen tend to work round-the-clock for the betterment of society, their working environment may not be the best and have higher chances of getting diagnosed with various types of fungal skin infections such as ringworm, jock itch, candidiasis, onychomycosis, tinea nigra, etc. Also, chances of weight gain and diabetes are high in this group as they may be hard-pressed for time for exercise, and dietary habits may be erratic and unbalanced. Given their packed schedules and long duty hours, they are many times unable to seek medical advice for their problem and suffer in silence
Given the uptick in fungal infections, The Debabrata Auro Foundation (DAF) and Esthetic Clinics have taken a crucial step by conducting fungal infection camps to provide free diagnosis and treatment to policemen who are unsung heroes and work 24/7 to protect our lives.
Dr. Debraj Shome, Director of Debabrata Auro Foundation (DAF) said, “40 police officers and office staff from Sion and Matunga Police station and 30 policemen from Ghatkopar Police Station were successfully treated at the camps. The camps aimed to provide medical assistance to police officers and office staff potentially affected by fungal infections. Dermatologist doctors from The Esthetic Clinics conducted thorough check-ups to diagnose any existing fungal infections. During the check-ups, the doctors offered personalized consultations, providing professional advice and guidance on managing and treating the infections. Free medicines were distributed to the infected patients, ensuring effective treatment tailored to their specific conditions.”
Our vision extends beyond traditional dermatological care, and here doctors are trying to reach those patients in need, who may not otherwise be able to reach them. We are championing the organisation of specialised fungal camps in police stations and BMC Safai Karamcharis offices, through DAF NGO in collaboration with The Esthetic Clinics.
“Our mission is to facilitate early detection and prompt treatment of fungal infections by bringing essential medical services directly to those who need them most. Improper treatment of fungal infections by quack practitioners must be curbed else it is causing a serious health problem of resistant infections in this city. By setting up these camps on-site, we eliminate the barriers that officers and staff might encounter in accessing timely medical attention. This proactive approach ensures that potential issues are addressed before they escalate, significantly reducing the risk of severe complications. Through these initiatives, we aim to enhance the well-being of our community, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their role or location, has access to the highest standard of dermatological care. By bringing medical services directly to the police stations, the camp offered convenient access to healthcare for those who might otherwise face barriers in seeking medical attention. This is a small gesture from The Esthetic Clinics as a mark of gratitude for those who risk their lives for the security of our society.
This initiative ensures the health and well-being of our police force by addressing their specific medical needs and providing them with high-quality dermatological care,” concluded the Founder of The Debabrata Auro Foundation and one of Asia’s finest Dermatologists Dr. Rinky Kapoor.
