Capri Sports’ Children’s Premier League Eyes Holistic Development Through Vehicle of Sport

Sport has often been seen as one of the most effective vehicles for welfare in society, as it helps go over and beyond the basic programmes while building strong socio-psychological foundations. Among the organisations working towards making an impact in such a sphere is Capri Sports, the dedicated sports wing of Capri Global, who put their weight behind the Children’s Premier League as the title sponsor, helping the theme of Sports for Learning and Development pick up pace.
The Children’s Premier League is a cricket tournament in Pune featuring 265+ participants from childcare institutions, all vying for the coveted trophy. The final for the tournament was held on 8 December. The Boys’ competition was won by Regional Probation and After care Association, Baramati with MBA as the runners-up. In the Girls’ event Pandita Ramabai Mukti Mission, Kedgaon were the champions while the Velankar team came in a close second. In the Alumni division, it was won by Pune Alumni Team while the Madhya Pradesh side were runners-up.
The tournament saw some fantastic cricket on display from spirited teams, with orphans and young athletes from vulnerable backgrounds coming together and putting their best foot forward to make the competition a roaring success. There was participation from 11 boys’ teams and 6 girls’ teams, hailing from various CCI locations such as Indore, Pune, Sangamner, Ahmednagar, Sagali, and Lonavala.
Capri Sports, who are heavily invested in building on their Corporate Social Responsibility, hope to impact these children by promoting health, skill development, community cohesion and gender equity. Capri Sports has joined hands with Catalysts for Social Action (CSA) an Indian Non-Profit Organisation with the aim of making a positive impact in society.
Catalysts for Social Action (CSA) is a non-governmental organization that strives to create a brighter future for vulnerable children, children under institutional care and care leavers. CSA has been working since 2002 as catalysts by partnering with existing, like-minded institutions and government authorities. Over the last 20 years, CSA has grown to work with more than 100 Child Care Institutions in four states of India and impacted the lives of 20000+ children and youth.
The mission of this initiative is to empower underprivileged youth, children, individuals with disabilities, and local athletes with untapped potential. Beyond the sporting arena, there is a dedicated effort towards enhancing local sports facilities, and helping elevate the inclusive sports programs.
There is significant importance in this event as it’s a pivotal initiative which harnesses the power of sports for the betterment of the children and fosters holistic community development, unlocking potential across generations, promote health and wellness, empower individuals with life skills, induce community cohesion, champion gender equity and teamwork, fostering life lessons and appreciation for cricket.
Speaking on the occasion, Jinisha Sharma, Director, Capri Sports, said, “Sport is a transformative journey that holds the power to shape lives, especially for our youth—the future architects of tomorrow. We are deeply committed to spreading the life-changing impact of sports to more young hearts and minds. Understanding its pivotal role in nurturing resilience, discipline, and camaraderie, we aspire to bring this invaluable experience to every child. At Capri Global and Capri Sports, we recognize the profound importance of instilling these values early on. Through our collaboration with Catalysts for Social Action, we aim to extend this opportunity to more young kids, ensuring that sports become an integral aspect of their journey towards a brighter and more promising future.”
