A complaint has been lodged at the Cyber Police Station in New Delhi against student activist Nishu Azad and her father, Sanjay Azad, by lawyer Amita Sachdeva. The complaint alleges that Nishu’s posts on X (formerly Twitter) contained derogatory references to several Hindu deities, including Bhagwan Shiv, Bhagwan Shri Krishna, Maa Saraswati, and Maa Durga. The lawyer seeks the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act, 2000.

The complaint outlines that four specific posts from Nishu’s X account, identified as @Nishuazad11, were uploaded between September 2023 and August 2026. It is claimed that these posts were deliberately made to offend the religious sentiments of Hindus. Sachdeva has expressed that this situation has caused distress not only to her but also to many other practising Hindus.

Sachdeva’s complaint asserts that the posts remain publicly accessible, despite her earlier requests for their removal. She articulated that these derogatory remarks were made with the intent to “outrage the religious feelings” of individuals within the Hindu community.

Accusations Regarding Account Management

The complaint notes that Nishu has described herself as a minor, with her father designated as her guardian. Accordingly, Sachdeva has requested an investigation to determine whether the account, which allegedly disseminates the offensive content, is indeed being operated by a minor under parental supervision. The persistent availability of the posts, despite prior notices, has amplified her concerns.

Sachdeva has requested that the authorities preserve the content of the four posts, along with related electronic evidence, including X platform records, IP logs, and device details. She is seeking measures to prevent any further circulation of the posts that are reportedly seen as offensive.

This case unfolds against the backdrop of a separate controversy involving Nishu’s father, Sanjay Azad. He has been in the spotlight following a reported assault on him during a protest associated with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

Related Controversy Involving Sanjay Azad

The incident involving Sanjay Azad has led to additional scrutiny, as he has alleged assault by self-styled influencer Swatantra Bhardwaj during the aforementioned protest. The CJP has formally accused Bhardwaj of the attack and has called for appropriate action to be taken against him. In a response, Bhardwaj has claimed that his actions constituted self-defence.

Bhardwaj has since been remanded to one day of police custody after being presented to a judge at the Karkardooma Court complex in New Delhi. The authorities arrested him from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh following the allegations of his involvement in the incident that occurred in July during the protest.

It is important to note that the complaint filed by Sachdeva regarding Nishu Azad’s social media posts is separate from the ongoing investigation concerning Sanjay Azad’s alleged assault. This division highlights the distinct nature of the issues surrounding both Nishu’s online activity and her father’s circumstances.
