Drunk Teacher Thrashes 6-Year-Old for Counting Error; Child Suffers Swollen Face, Blood Clot

The CSR Journal Magazine

A shocking incident has surfaced from Balrampur district in Chhattisgarh, where a young student was severely beaten by his teacher for a simple mistake during a maths lesson. The assault left the six-year-old with a swollen face and blood clot near his eye, sparking outrage among villagers and parents.

Assault During Class

The disturbing incident took place on Friday at Jawakhadi Primary School under the Palgi Gram Panchayat. After the lunch break, headmaster Uday Yadav entered the classroom to teach mathematics. During the session, he asked Class 2 student Bhagirathi to recite numbers. When the boy made an error while counting, the teacher allegedly lost control and began slapping him repeatedly.

According to eyewitnesses and the child’s parents, Yadav struck the boy with such force that his face became visibly swollen, and blood accumulated in one eye. Even as the frightened child lowered his head, the teacher allegedly continued hitting him.

Parents File Police Complaint

The injured child ran home crying, prompting his parents to question him. After learning what had happened, his father, Dhananjay Yadav, immediately took him to the Trikunda police station and filed a formal complaint. He alleged that the headmaster frequently comes to school intoxicated and was drunk on the day of the incident as well.

Trikunda police have registered a case and begun an inquiry. Station in-charge Jawahar Tirki confirmed that investigators would also verify whether the teacher was under the influence of alcohol during the assault.

Education Department Suspends the Headmaster

District Education Officer Maniram Yadav stated that a block-level official was sent to the police station for a preliminary probe. Following initial findings, headmaster Uday Yadav has been suspended pending full investigation.

Villagers Express Anger

The attack triggered widespread anger in the village. Locals said violence against young children cannot be tolerated, especially in a school with barely 30–35 students studying from Classes 1 to 5. Parents and residents have demanded strict legal and departmental action.

The case comes shortly after another incident in Surajpur district, where a teacher allegedly hung a five-year-old child from a tree for not completing homework, adding to growing concerns about child safety in schools.
