The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has successfully apprehended four individuals involved in drug trafficking and confiscated 375.95 kg of cannabis in Raipur. This operation was conducted on September 9, following actionable intelligence that guided the officers to two trucks suspected of carrying narcotic substances.

On September 6, the DRI officers intercepted the two trucks near Old Dhamtari Road in Raipur. The vehicles were reportedly transporting cannabis from Visakhapatnam, with a route that included Odisha before reaching Raipur. Authorities believed the contraband was hidden within the truck loads.

During the search operation, officials discovered 61 packets of cannabis, concealed within ten sacks in the loading area. The packets were thoroughly wrapped with brown adhesive tape and were confirmed to be cannabis through a field-testing kit specifically used for Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS).

Legal Consequences and Further Investigations

The DRI has seized both the substantial drug quantity and the two trucks involved in the operation. The individuals arrested will face charges under the NDPS Act of 1985. Authorities are currently expanding their investigation to seek any additional connections or accomplices within this trafficking network.

In related news, a separate operation on the same day led the DRI Mumbai Zonal Unit to dismantle an international gold-smuggling ring believed to involve Chinese nationals. The unit confiscated 691.870 grams of 24-carat gold valued at approximately Rs 1.10 crore.

The seized gold was reportedly hidden inside a treadmill motor and was uncovered in a shipment imported from Hong Kong at Mumbai’s Air Cargo Complex. Two individuals, including a Chinese national alongside an Indian associate involved in the importation, were arrested under the Customs Act, 1962.

Coordinated Efforts in Drug and Smuggling Operations

Following the gold seizure, DRI teams initiated searches at various sites across multiple Indian cities, including Mumbai, Chennai, Tiruvallur, and Chengalpattu. These coordinated efforts form part of an intricate investigation into smuggling activities that allegedly exploit legitimate trade avenues.

The DRI has revealed that the gold smuggling operation involved a sophisticated method crafted by Chinese nationals in collaboration with their Indian associates, aiming to transport gold through commercial imports to evade detection.
