Uttar Pradesh Police Dismantles 1.72 Lakh Kg of Narcotics in 2026

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Uttar Pradesh Police have successfully destroyed 1,72,246 kg of narcotics in 2026, marking the highest quantity disposed of by any state in India. This operation, known as “Operation Dahan,” has an estimated value of ₹418 crore. The police shared these figures on Saturday, highlighting their commitment to combatting drug-related issues in the state.

In addition to the destruction of narcotics, the police have initiated proceedings to confiscate properties valued at ₹80.33 crore across 96 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This positions Uttar Pradesh as the second-highest state in the country for actions taken against assets allegedly acquired through drug trafficking.

Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna launched a five-member police contingent for an all-India motorcycle rally themed ‘Fight Against Drugs’ from the police headquarters in Lucknow. This rally is part of the efforts to raise awareness about substance abuse, particularly among the youth, and is scheduled ahead of National Unity Day on October 31.

Statistics Reflect Ongoing Anti-Drug Efforts

Throughout 2026, the Uttar Pradesh Police have registered 4,197 cases related to drug trafficking. They have seized 36,088 kg of narcotics and apprehended 6,076 individuals allegedly involved in trafficking activities. The police have also dismantled 26 drug cartels, taken action against 19 interstate cartels, and destroyed five clandestine laboratories, according to official reports.

Preventive detention proceedings have been initiated in 76 cases this year under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act. In a focused effort to combat codeine-based cough syrup trafficking, the police have begun confiscation proceedings against properties worth approximately ₹48 crore across 14 cases.

The extradition process for alleged international traffickers Shubham Jaiswal and Gaurav Jaiswal is reportedly nearing completion, as stated by police officials. These actions are part of a broader strategy to tackle drug trafficking at both local and international levels.

Motorcycle Rally to Promote Drug Awareness

The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), established on August 4, 2022, has made significant strides in the fight against drug trafficking. Since its inception, the ANTF has registered 504 cases, arrested 1,364 alleged traffickers, and seized 45,292 kg of narcotics valued at around ₹554 crore.

The five riders participating in the motorcycle rally will travel through Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Rajasthan, ultimately reaching Ekta Nagar in Gujarat by October 26. Their route includes key locations such as Etawah, Agra, Mathura, Gautam Budh Nagar, Jaipur, Ajmer, Udaipur, and Gandhinagar.

During their journey, the riders will engage with students at schools, colleges, and universities to promote the messages ‘Fight Against Drugs’ and ‘Say No to Drugs’. They will also raise awareness about the Centre’s MANAS national de-addiction helpline, 14446. The contingent is set to participate in the National Unity Day celebrations and parade at the Statue of Unity on October 31.

While flagging off the rally, DGP Rajeev Krishna emphasised the importance of a drug-free younger generation in achieving Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s vision for a strong and united India. He urged the riders to effectively disseminate awareness about the dangers of drug abuse among the youth along their route.
