The surveillance footage reveals the suspect sitting among several other shoppers, examining clothes while her son stealthily retrieves a purse from a bag left behind by an unsuspecting customer. After the theft, the woman is seen exiting the shop with her child.

Victim Reports Missing Purse

The incident initially went unnoticed, but the purse’s owner later filed a complaint with the police upon discovering it was missing. Assistant Police Inspector Yogesh Dhotre provided insights into the case, explaining that the accused had been observing her target at a bank prior to the theft, where she had withdrawn cash. As the customer focused on browsing clothes, the woman allegedly instructed her son to take the purse.

Police Action and Arrest

Following the filing of the complaint, local law enforcement undertook a detailed review of CCTV footage from various locations within the town to track down the suspect. The investigation led to her identification and subsequent detention by the police. During questioning, the woman reportedly admitted to committing the theft. Inspector Dhotre confirmed that authorities recovered the stolen purse, which contained Rs 44,000 in cash along with a mobile phone.

Legal Proceedings Initiated

A formal theft case has been registered against the woman. Police indicated that further interrogations will be conducted to determine whether she has a history of similar criminal activities. The case has garnered attention due to the involvement of a minor and the methods employed during the incident.

Discussions around the implications of such actions, especially involving young children, are ongoing as authorities continue to investigate the matter. Local residents have expressed their dismay at the incident while underscoring the need for preventive measures to safeguard children from being used in unlawful activities.
