BSF Seizes Rs 78 lakh Worth of Yaba Tablets Near Indo-Bangladesh Border

The CSR Journal Magazine

Border Security Force personnel in Tripura stopped a big drug smuggling attempt by intercepting a consignment of 7,800 Yaba tablets, valued around Rs 78 lakh, near the Indo-Bangladesh border. Smugglers often pick this route because the border is porous and thick with foliage, making it easy to hide.

Acting on a tip-off, BSF troops moved swiftly towards a zone showing suspicious activity near the border. When they reached, they spotted a group who quickly dropped a bag and ran back towards Bangladesh, disappearing into the dark. The BSF team searched the area and found the bag filled with 7,800 Yaba tablets, which are pink and easy to spot. Each tablet contains methamphetamine and caffeine, both highly addictive and dangerous for health.

Officers explained that these tablets, known as “crazy medicine,” are sold at a high price in the illegal market. The total value of this catch stands at Rs 78 lakh, showing how big and profitable the illegal trade remains. Yaba tablets are a severe risk to youth and society because of their addictive nature and the harm they cause over time.

After this seizure, the BSF handed the drugs to local police for further investigation and destruction, as per the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. BSF officers stressed the importance of frequent patrols, close watch at border posts, and sharing information between agencies. Their recent success is part of bigger efforts to break drug supply lines and catch those running this illegal trade.

Smugglers keep searching for new ways to push Yaba across the border, often using areas with less fencing or near rivers. Previous busts have even led to arrests and discovery of larger smuggling networks in the Northeast. BSF leaders said that help from local people is crucial. They urged residents near the border to report anything odd, helping authorities keep the area safe.

With each successful operation, BSF hopes to break the strength of such smuggling rings and protect the youth from falling into the trap of drugs. Their zero-tolerance approach and timely coordination with other agencies have made it much harder for drug traffickers to succeed in the region.
