The Border Security Force (BSF) has seized gold worth over Rs 1.5 crore near Bangladesh border in Basirhat, North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. BSF jawans intercepted a 12-year-old boy near the border with a bag. They grew suspicious after seeing a boy roaming aimlessly near the border with a bag. Upon questioning the child, they came to know that he is just following his mother’s instructions who told him to keep the bag at a spot near the border!
Obeying his mother’s instructions, the 12-year-old boy went to leave the bag at the specified place on the border. At that time, the BSF jawans noticed the boy. When the jawans on duty searched the boy’s bag, they were shocked. A total of 11 gold biscuits came out of the bag. The boy has been arrested by the BSF.
11 gold biscuits worth Rs 1 crore 64 lakhs seized
The arrested minor is a resident of Daharkanda area of Swarupnagar police station on the India-Bangladesh border in Basirhat. He is a sixth-grade student of a local school. According to police and BSF sources, the boy went to the border area along with his mother, Sarbin Mollah. His mother handed him a bag and told him to keep it in a paddy field near the border. When the boy set off towards the paddy field with the bag, the patrolling BSF jawans intercepted him. While searching the bag, the gold biscuits were recovered.
A total of 11 gold biscuits were recovered. The weight of the recovered gold is 1 kg 286 grams, with an estimated market value of Rs 1 crore 64 lakhs. He took the bag on the advice of his mother. He does not know anything else. This is what the teenager reportedly told during interrogation. The minor was later arrested. The BSF handed over the minor and the gold biscuits to the Tentulia Customs Preventive Unit.
Why did his family hand over gold biscuits to a schoolboy for smuggling? That is a matter that is worrying the Border Security Force. The BSF is currently searching for the boy’s mother who is absconding.
Malda district Police seizes brown sugar worth Rs 1.5 crores being smuggled to Bihar
In a major success ahead of Diwali, West Bengal’s Malda district police recovered brown sugar in a huge amount. An attempt was being made to smuggle the illegal drugs into neighbouring state Bihar on Sunday night, but the police foiled the plot. A huge amount of drugs was recovered from Malda’s Vaishnavnagar police station area, the market value of which is about Rs 1.5 crores. A young woman from Bihar named Kanchan Devi was arrested.
According to police sources, a tip-off was received about drug smuggling from a secret source. After that, the Vaishnavnagar police station conducted a raid. Late on the night before Diwali, a woman was seen roaming suspiciously in the Maiti More area of Khejuriaghat. The investigators reached there and started questioning her. Inconsistencies were found in the woman’s words. The bag she was carrying was searched. And investigators were in for a shock! The banned drug brown sugar was found in a huge quantity in the bag. After that, she was arrested and taken to the police station.
