Sonipat: BJP Leader Surendra Jawahar Shot Dead Over Land Dispute

A very shocking case has come to light from Haryana’s Sonipat district. The president of the BJP’s Mundlana Mandal in Sonipat, Surendra Jawahar was shot dead on Friday night in Jawahra village. The BJP leader was allegedly killed over a land dispute. Meanwhile, the assailant was identified as Monu. The tragic incident occurred at around 9:30 PM when Monu opened fire on Jawahar inside a shop in Sonipat.

Incident Captured on CCTV

The entire incident was captured on CCTV. The footage revealed the attacker chasing Jawahar into a shop and shooting him point-blank. In the video, Jawahar is heard shouting “Maar diya maar diya” ( ‘He killed me’ ) before being shot in the head. However, the bystanders attempted to intervene, but the assailant fled the scene, and Jawahar died instantly on the spot.

The Land Dispute

According to a preliminary investigation, the main motive behind the murder was a long-standing land dispute. Jawahar had allegedly purchased land from Monu’s uncle and aunt, which led to the ongoing tensions between the two. Monu had reportedly warned Jawahar not to enter the land. However, Jawahar visited the site on Friday, to resolve the issue, Monu confronted him, chased him and later shot him.

Investigation Underway

Following the incident, Haryana Police arrested Monu on Saturday morning. According to the officials, the accused fired at least two bullets at Jawahar. “The BJP leader’s body has been sent for post-mortem and the accused is being questioned”, said the Police.
ACP Crime Rishikant while talking to ANI said, “Yesterday, we got information that a bullet was fired in Jawahra village, and Surendra Jawahar was shot and killed. The person who was killed had bought land from his uncle and aunt. They had a dispute over it, due to which this murder took place”.

Mangat Rai Manga Killed

In a similar incident from Punjab, a Shiv Sena leader, Mangat Rai Manga, was shot dead by three people on a bike in Moga on Thursday night. The accused initially opened fire at the outfit’s district unit president, but the bullet missed him and hit a 12-year-old boy. “The deceased, Mangat Rai alias Manga, was the Moga district president of Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena,” a police official said.
