A video showing BJP councillor Renu Chaudhary confronting an African football coach in a Delhi park has gone viral, sparking outrage on social media. In the clip, the councillor can be seen raising her voice and demanding the man learn Hindi within a month, warning of consequences if he fails.

The incident occurred at a public park in Patparganj, East Delhi, where the coach has been training local children for several years. Chaudhary questions why he has not learnt the language despite living and working in India. “You are not serious. Tum serious ho hi nahi meri baat ke liye. Sun ke bhi razi nahi ho tum. Kyu nahi seekhi Hindi? Agar agle 1 mahine mein Hindi nahi seekhi, isse park cheen lo,” she says in the video.

She further links language skills to livelihood: “Yaha ka paisa kha rahe ho toh mu mein bhi Hindi bolna seekho.” Chaudhary also emphasises the seriousness of the matter, stating, “Hasne ki baat nahi hai, serious bol rahi hu ye.”

Delhi Councillor Warns Coach Over Rules

The councillor claims she had raised this issue eight months ago but allowed the coach to continue after local residents insisted he trains their children. “Sab society walo ne bola tha ki humare baccho ko seekhata hai, maine chhod diya tha,” she adds. She also warns about park rules: “Btari hu tujhe, 8 baje park band ho jana chahiye, koi bhi criminal activity hogi toh tum zimmedar ho.”

The video has drawn criticism online, with users calling her behavior intimidating, discriminatory, and unbecoming of an elected representative. Many noted that such incidents undermine India’s constitutional values and respect for diversity.

Renu Chaudhary represents Ward No. 197 in Patparganj and is part of the BJP Delhi Mahila Morcha. She won the 2022 civic elections by a narrow margin. So far, neither the BJP nor the civic authorities have issued a statement regarding the incident.
