BJP Announces New National Team With Average Age of 50

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled its new national team under the leadership of party president Nitin Nabin, showcasing a blend of seasoned experience and emerging leaders. The 65-member team, with an average age of approximately 50, signifies a strategic effort to integrate established organisational talent with younger faces, rather than a complete shift towards youthfulness. This restructured team has been designed to ensure a balance between expertise and invigorated leadership.

Notable among the new appointments is the representation of women, with 12 female members constituting around 18.5 per cent of the total group. High-profile appointments include Vasundhara Raje, D Purandeswari, Rekha Verma, Varshaben Doshi, Bharati Pawar, and Madhuchandra Kar as national vice-presidents, along with Smriti Irani taking on the role of national general secretary.

This new formation includes national secretaries such as Kavita Patidar, Phangnon Konyak, and Sangeeta Yadav. Significant representation is also observed from Uttar Pradesh, with three leaders from the state playing pivotal roles. Smriti Irani’s choice to oversee operations in Uttar Pradesh is particularly noteworthy, setting up potential dynamics in the region’s political sphere.

Key Changes at Leadership Levels

The updates at the national general secretary level reveal a marked transition, introducing six new individuals among the total of eight. New members include Smriti Irani, Biplab Deb, Satish Poonia, Gajendra Patel, Harish Dwivedi, and Sanjay Bhatia, while existing members Sunil Bansal and Vinod Tawde retain their positions. This alteration signals a generational shift that seeks to balance continuity with fresh perspectives within the party’s core leadership.

Further, at the organisational levels, B L Santhosh continues as national general secretary (organisation), joined by Shivprakash in the role of national joint general secretary (organisation). Saudan Singh returns to his position after previously serving as national vice-president, ensuring a continuity of experienced leadership amid the broader reshuffle.

A comprehensive revamp among national secretaries has occurred, with 16 appointments, 14 of which are new faces. New entries include Kavita Patidar, K Surendran, Bhola Singh, and others, indicating an effort to empower the next generation of leaders with greater responsibilities in the party’s organisational framework.

Additional Appointments and Overhauls

Piyush Goyal’s reappointment as the national treasurer highlights his return to a significant organisational role while he continues as a Union minister. The details regarding how this dual responsibility will affect his ministerial duties remain unclear. Tarun Chugh has transitioned from national general secretary to national office in-charge, potentially enhancing the interface between the party’s headquarters and its operational context.

In a sweeping reform, all seven organisational Morchas have new presidents, including individuals such as Dr Hemang Joshi for the Yuva Morcha and Amarpal Maurya for the OBC Morcha. This overhaul aims to bolster the party’s outreach among various demographic groups, such as youth, women, farmers, OBCs, and minorities.

The media and social media teams have also been notably revised. While Anil Baluni retains his position, others such as Sanjay Mayukh have been replaced, with Ashish Agarwal and Pradeep Bhandari stepping into new roles. The aim of these changes is to strengthen the BJP’s communications strategy across traditional and digital platforms.
