Political temperatures soared in the Chhat Khaterbari area of Mata Bhanga I block after a BJP Booth Level Agent (BLA-2) was reportedly attacked and subjected to a humiliating ordeal, which included being forced to wear a garland of shoes. The incident, which allegedly occurred on Thursday in the Pachagarh Gram Panchayat, has prompted the BJP to lodge a formal complaint with the Election Commission (EC).
Allegations of TMC Attack
The victim, identified as BJP BLA-2 Nibas Das, recounted the harrowing experience. He claimed the assault took place shortly after he met with the Booth Level Officer (BLO) in the village.
“I entered the village after a discussion with the BLO. Upon reaching a house where the BLO was present, I was kicked and slapped by individuals I believe to be Trinamool Congress (TMC) goons. Following the physical assault, they put a garland of shoes around my neck. I am pursuing a complaint with the Election Commission,” Das stated.
Trinamool Congress Dismisses Charges
The Trinamool Congress leadership has issued a strong denial of any involvement in the alleged attack. Ukil Barman, General Secretary of the TMC’s Pachagarh Regional Committee, labeled the accusations as unfounded.
“There is absolutely no truth to these claims. The BJP worker is fabricating these allegations merely to attract media attention. Furthermore, we believe this may stem from internal group conflict within the BJP itself,” Barman asserted.
BJP Links Attack to Voter Roll Revision
District BJP leader Manoj Ghosh connected the alleged violence to the ongoing Special Integrated Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Ghosh suggested the TMC is resorting to intimidation tactics out of fear that the revision process will remove illegitimate voters.
“The TMC is terrified since the SIR process began, as many of their illegal voters are set to be excluded. Our BLA-2 was simply accompanying the BLO. This is part of a pattern—yesterday, our BLA-2 was chased out of Fakirer Kuti, and today, Nibas Das was assaulted and publicly humiliated. We will escalate this matter to the Election Commission, and if adequate measures aren’t taken, we will take necessary action on our own,” Ghosh warned.
Echoing the denial, TMC leader Ukil Chandra Barman reiterated, “No one from the Trinamool Congress was involved. This is either a staged act by BJP leaders seeking the limelight or a consequence of their deep-seated factional disputes.”
Following the report of the incident, officials from the Mathabhanga Police Station were dispatched to the scene to assess the situation and maintain order.
