Bengaluru Woman, 20, Falls to Death from 13th Floor While Filming Reel

A tragic incident shook Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara locality when a 20-year-old woman lost her life after falling from the 13th floor of an under-construction building while allegedly filming a reel for social media. The incident, which took place late at night, has raised concerns about safety in abandoned buildings and the risks associated with social media trends.

The woman, identified as Nandini, had gone to the building with a group of friends, both male and female, for a late-night party. According to police reports, the group had entered the unguarded, unoccupied building—vacant for nearly a decade due to a dispute over ownership—at around 8 pm. During the party, a dispute reportedly broke out among the friends over a relationship issue. Following the heated exchange, Nandini went to the terrace, intending to record what police have described as a “sad reel” on her phone.

While filming near the edge, she accidentally slipped and fell into the lift shaft, a space where a lift was supposed to be installed in the future. The fall proved fatal, and she was pronounced dead at the scene when police arrived. The incident was discovered after one of her friends dialled the emergency helpline 112. However, by the time authorities reached the spot, two male friends had already fled, while a female friend stayed back to speak with the police.

Nandini was originally from Bihar and worked at a shopping mart in Bengaluru. Her sudden death has left her family and friends in deep shock. Following the incident, police registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) and have stated that investigations are ongoing. DCP (South East) Fatima confirmed, “Yes, they were partying in the building. They later went to the terrace to record reels, and she slipped and fell to her death. As of now, we are unaware if a relationship issue led to this. Everything is under investigation”.

Police are examining all possible angles, including the circumstances that led to the group’s entry into the unsafe building and whether the local civic agencies had been informed about the hazardous condition of the site. So far, no recording for a reel has been recovered from the victim’s phone, and authorities are trying to piece together the exact sequence of events through CCTV footage and statements from those present.

This incident has once again highlighted the dangers of venturing into unsafe, under-construction buildings and the risks involved in creating content for social media platforms without adequate precautions. The police have urged the public, especially the youth, to be mindful of their safety and avoid such risky endeavours. The investigation continues as the authorities seek to establish the full details behind this heartbreaking accident.
