Police have launched a murder probe after sanitation workers found a woman’s bound and gagged body inside a municipal garbage truck near Channammanakere Skating Ground late Saturday night.
Body Wrapped in Sack; Police Say Victim’s Legs Were Tied Around Her Neck
The victim, estimated to be between 25 and 35 years old, was tightly wrapped in a sack, with her legs tied around her neck. A passerby noted the unusually heavy bag and alerted BBMP staff, who in turn informed police. “Her legs were tied to her neck, and the body was stuffed into a bag before being discarded in the garbage truck,” a senior officer said.
Joint Commissioner C Vamsi Krishna confirmed investigators believe the woman was likely killed elsewhere and that the bag was placed in the truck between 1 am and 3 am. “The hands of the woman were tied and the body was in a gunny bag. BBMP staff informed us about the body. We have registered a case of murder and are investigating the matter,” he stated, noting CCTV footage shows an auto-rickshaw dropping off the bag shortly after midnight.
Lack of Undergarments Raises Suspicion of Sexual Assault, Say Police
Preliminary findings suggest sexual assault may have occurred before death. The body was dressed in company-branded T-shirt and pants, with no undergarments present. Authorities await postmortem and forensic results to confirm the cause of death.
Police are reviewing CCTV recordings and inspecting forensic evidence to identify both the victim and suspects. The case is formally registered at Chennammanakere Achukattu Police Station.
