A Bangladeshi national, Viplav Soren, was arrested at the Indian Naval Academy (INA) in Ezhimala, near Payyannur, resulting in a total of six arrests of Bangladeshi nationals within four days in Kannur. The authorities report that Soren, aged 32, had been employed temporarily at the Naval Academy for approximately one year. Payyannur Police Sub-Inspector Shuhaib executed the arrest following directives from Circle Inspector Mahesh K Nair.

Police official Umesh Goyal indicated that the investigation is ongoing to verify whether Viplav Soren is indeed his real name. The nature of Soren’s employment at the INA remains undisclosed, along with how he acquired his position there. The police have not confirmed whether his employment raises security concerns.

Arrests of Bangladeshi Women

The recent arrest of Viplav Soren follows the apprehension of five Bangladeshi women in the district over the last four days for residing in India without proper documentation. On 15th September, four women were detained for illegally staying in Kannur and working at a local spa. A fifth woman was taken into custody on 12th September for the same reason.

The women have been identified as Nazma Akter, aged 40, Taslima Khatun, 25, Moyna Khatun, 29, and Nasri Bheebi, 28. The police acted on a tip-off that illegal migrants were residing at a rented property in Odenparambu, leading them to obtain a search warrant from a local court before conducting a raid.

During the operation, authorities discovered identity cards issued in Bangladesh, as well as counterfeit Indian identification documents among the women’s belongings. According to official statements, the women claimed to have acquired the fake documents from Assam prior to migrating to Kerala for employment.

Legal Proceedings and Custody of Arrested Individuals

Following the arrests, police have officially charged the women under the Immigration and Foreigners Act. They were presented in court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. The police have stated that the individuals will be thoroughly interrogated as part of the investigation process to ascertain any further illegal activities.

The series of arrests has raised awareness about the issue of illegal immigration in the region. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the employment of these individuals in Kerala, as well as the potential security implications for the area. The investigation is reported to be comprehensive as the police aim to uncover any networks that facilitate illegal immigration.
