Bangladesh Army Announces Major Restructuring with Key Transfers and Senior Appointments

Dhaka has recently witnessed a major reshuffle in high-ranking positions within the Bangladesh Army. This marks the second reshuffle in just a week, coinciding with the establishment of the new government. Lieutenant General Mohammad Shaheenul Haque, who was serving as the Commandant of the National Defence College (NDC), has been appointed as the Quartermaster General (QMG). His successor at the NDC will be Lieutenant General Mohammad Faizur Rahman, former QMG.

Further Changes in Army Leadership

In addition, Major General Hossain Al Morshed has been named the new Adjutant General at Army Headquarters. Previously, he was the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 19 Infantry Division and Area Commander of Ghatail. The current Adjutant General, Major General Md Hakimuzzaman, will now take on the role of Commandant at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST). Moreover, Major General Md Nasim Parvez, previously the Commandant of MIST, has been reassigned to work within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Logistics and Area Command Adjustments

Another notable transfer involved Major General Mohammad Kamrul Hasan, the GOC of the 66 Infantry Division and Rangpur Area Commander, who has now been appointed as GOC and Area Commander for the Logistics Area in Dhaka Cantonment. The former head of the Logistics Area, Major General Muhammad Mostagousur Rahman Khan, has retired according to customary terms. Earlier, on February 22, Lieutenant General Mainur Rahman was appointed as Chief of General Staff (CGS) of the Bangladesh Army, having previously served as the GOC of the Armed Doctrine and Training Command (ARTDOC).

Additional High-Level Position Changes

The latest reorganization also saw several other high-level positions in the Bangladesh Army restructured. An order was issued by Army Headquarters on Sunday afternoon detailing these changes. Lieutenant General SM Kamrul Hasan, currently serving as the Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces Division, will now transition to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an Ambassador. Major General Mir Mushfiqur Rahman has been appointed as the new Principal Staff Officer, transitioning from his role as the GOC of the 24 Infantry Division.

Notable Promotions and New Assignments

Additionally, Major General JM Imdadul Islam was transferred from the 55 Infantry Division to the East Bengal Regimental Centre. Major General Ferdous Hasan, the Commandant of the East Bengal Regimental Centre, has now been appointed GOC of the 24 Infantry Division. Brigadier General Md Hafizur Rahman, formerly stationed at the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi, has been elevated to the rank of Major General and appointed GOC of the 55 Infantry Division. Further, Brigadier General Mohammad Kaisar Rashid Chowdhury has been designated as the Director General of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI).
