A massive fire erupted at the central warehouse of the CSIR-North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST) in Jorhat, Assam, late Thursday night. The blaze was accompanied by a series of loud explosions, creating a chaotic scene. The warehouse housed a large quantity of chemical materials and various research items. Witnesses reported hearing more than ten explosions in quick succession, which raised alarm among nearby residents.

Emergency Response Mobilized

Fire and Emergency Services responded promptly after being alerted to the situation. Firefighters worked diligently through the night, and reports indicate that the fire was brought under control in the early morning hours. As of now, the cause of the fire and the explosions remains unverified. Authorities have yet to assess the full extent of the damage incurred from the incident. An investigation is expected to be initiated to uncover the reasons behind the fire.

Multiple Firefighting Teams Engaged

Firefighting crews from Jorhat Sadar, along with teams from Mariani, Titabor, Borhola, Teok, and Dergaon, played a crucial role in managing the situation. More than ten fire tenders were utilized in the effort. Additional support was provided by firefighting units from Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and the Indian Air Force. These teams collaborated effectively to control the fire and minimize further risk.

Ongoing Efforts to Extinguish the Fire

Operations to completely extinguish the fire continued into the morning, with emergency personnel still active on-site. The immediate vicinity experienced heightened tension due to the initial explosions, but responders worked strategically to mitigate the risk to local residents and property.
