Anil Kapoor Reflects on Deeper Meaning of Majnu Bhai’s Painting in ‘Welcome’ Holi Special

The CSR Journal Magazine

On a recent Holi special episode of Wheel of Fortune, hosted by Akshay Kumar, Anil Kapoor revisited the renowned Majnu Bhai painting from the film Welcome. Nearly two decades after the film captivated audiences, Kapoor emphasized that the artwork embodies more depth than its popularity as a meme. This revelation was prompted when a fan, who identified himself as an avid admirer of both actors and the movie, presented a version of the celebrated painting and inquired about its background.

Surprisingly, Kapoor disclosed that he still possesses the original painting that was featured in the film. Addressing its viral status, he remarked, “People keep making memes with this painting, but there is depth, a story and seriousness behind it.” He acknowledged that while many create jokes around the artwork, its significance goes beyond humor. “You make fun of it by creating memes and people wonder what kind of painting it is,” he commented.

Keen to add some humor to the discussion, Kapoor shared that he receives royalties from the many t-shirts that bear the unique design, which elicited laughter from Kumar. He provided insights into the painting’s meaning, which depicts a horse and a donkey. Kapoor explained that the horse symbolizes hard work and energy, while the donkey represents a lack of effort. He humorously likened it to office dynamics, noting that often the individual who works the hardest does not receive due recognition. He even playfully asked the audience whether they identified more with the horse or the donkey.

Reflecting on his journey with the Welcome franchise, Kapoor humorously recounted his experiences. “First of all, I did Welcome 1 with Akshay Sahab, then he wasn’t there in part 2, then I was removed in part 3, and Welcome 4 we will do together again,” he shared. The original 2007 film, directed by Anees Bazmee, boasted an impressive cast that included Katrina Kaif, Nana Patekar, Paresh Rawal, Feroz Khan, and Mallika Sherawat.
