In the Baramulla district, northern Kashmir, an ancient Durga idol has been recovered from the Jhelum River. The Durga idol found in Jhelum River has been handed over to the archaeology wing in Srinagar. A thorough examination is being done of the Kashmir archaeological discovery. As per the J&K police, the ancient Durga idol was discovered by a fisherman named Nazir Ahmad Latoo, he is a resident of Shaltang Zogyar of Baramulla. Latoo was fishing when he found the Durga idol in Jhelum River.

A police spokesperson shared, “The sculpture was immediately brought to the notice of authorities and was kept in safe custody at Sheri police station. Following due procedures and directions from the Directorate of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, Jammu and Kashmir, the sculpture was formally handed over to the Archaeology Wing, Srinagar.”
The spokesperson further shared that the Ancient Durga idol is currently undergoing thorough examination, it will be then documented and preserved. This examination will disclose many details of the Ancient Hindu idol of goddess Durga, “Such discoveries not only enrich Kashmir’s historical narrative but also underline the importance of community participation in preserving the region’s invaluable heritage,” the police noted. After this case, where a fisherman promptly handed over the ancient Durga idol, J&K police by giving this example have asked citizens to act swiftly and hand over the historical discovery like this.
