Mukesh Ambani and his family have reclaimed the richest position in India, with collective wealth estimated at Rs 9.55 lakh crore, as per the 2025 M3M Hurun India Rich List. The Adani family follows closely with Rs 8.15 lakh crore, reflecting fierce competition among India’s ultra-rich.
Roshni Nadar Becomes India’s Richest Woman
A notable breakthrough this year has been Roshni Nadar Malhotra, who for the first time ranks among the top three with a fortune of Rs 2.84 lakh crore, thereby becoming India’s richest woman. The list highlights her as a trailblaser, signifying a shift in India’s wealth dynamics toward greater female entrepreneurial influence.
The report also underscores a rapid expansion of India’s billionaire community: the count has now surpassed 350, a sixfold increase in just over a decade. Their combined fortune sums to about Rs 167 lakh crore nearly half of India’s GDP. Young entrepreneurs are making inroads too: 31‑year‑old Aravind Srinivas (founder of Perplexity) emerged as India’s youngest billionaire with net worth of Rs 21,190 crore.
Shah Rukh Khan Joins India’s Billionaire Club
In another surprise, Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan has earned a spot among India’s wealthiest for the first time, with assets valued at Rs 12,490 crore. His rise illustrates how fame, diversified investments, and savvy business moves can converge into substantial wealth.
Among the biggest wealth accelerators was Niraj Bajaj and his family, who saw the sharpest climb in fortunes adding Rs 69,875 crore to reach Rs 2.33 lakh crore. This illustrates both volatility and opportunity in India’s high-net-worth economy.
Mumbai Tops Billionaire Count; Pharma Leads Sectors
Geographically, Mumbai still reigns as the nerve center of affluence, hosting 451 billionaires. New Delhi ranks second with 223, and Bengaluru third with 116. Sector-wise, pharmaceuticals lead with 137 entries, followed by industrial goods (132), and chemicals & petrochemicals (125).
The list also highlights that women and self-made entrepreneurs are increasingly central to India’s wealth story. This year, 101 women made the list, with 26 dollar‑billionaires among them. 66 % of wealth holders are self-made, and among newcomers, 74 % built their wealth from scratch.
