Air India Express Adds Special Flights to Ahmedabad Ahead of T20 World Cup Final

The CSR Journal Magazine

India’s entry into the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup has triggered a sharp rise in travel demand to Ahmedabad, prompting Air India Express to announce additional flights to the city ahead of the title clash scheduled for March 8.

An Air India Express spokesperson said the airline will operate special flights from major metro cities including Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad to facilitate cricket fans travelling to watch the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

The additional services have been introduced after a surge in bookings from across the country as fans plan to attend the high-profile summit clash in Ahmedabad.

Airline Monitoring Demand Amid Travel Rush

The airline said it is closely tracking booking patterns and may introduce further capacity if demand continues to increase.

“With India qualifying for the final, there has been a noticeable spike in travel demand to Ahmedabad. We have scheduled additional flights from key metro hubs to help fans reach the city in time for the match,” the spokesperson said.

Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, the world’s largest cricket venue with a capacity of over 1.3 lakh spectators, is hosting the T20 World Cup final for the first time.

Travel platforms and airlines have reported a significant jump in searches and bookings for Ahmedabad since India secured its place in the final.

India Enter Final After Thriller Against England

India reached the final after a dramatic seven-run victory over England in the semi-final played in Mumbai.

Batting first, India posted a massive total of 253 for 7 in 20 overs, powered by a blistering 89 off 42 balls by Sanju Samson. Contributions from Shivam Dube, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma helped push the total past the 250 mark, the highest score recorded in a T20 World Cup knockout match.

England mounted a strong chase with Jacob Bethell scoring a rapid century and Will Jacks contributing with the bat. A late cameo from Jofra Archer brought England close to the target, but they eventually finished at 246 for 7.

India will now face New Zealand in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 8 as they aim to add another ICC title to their record.
