AIMSA Reports Distress Calls from Indian Medical Students in Iran, Seeks MEA Action

The CSR Journal Magazine

The All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA) has reported receiving more than 18 distress calls from Indian medical students who are currently stranded in Iran. Specifically, these calls have come from Isfahan, where 32 Indian students are residing. The association indicated that some students had to move underground into a basement for safety after a recent attack occurred near their hostel, highlighting the growing concern about their security.

Relocation of Students from Affected Areas

Further reports indicate that medical students studying in Qom, particularly at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, and Iran University of Medical Sciences, have been relocated due to the targeting of nearby residential buildings. These developments have left many students feeling frightened amid the deteriorating situation. Calls were received late on March 7 and early on March 8, signaling that tensions in the area remain high and concerning.

Food Supply Shortages Alarming Students

Students from Kerman have communicated growing anxiety caused by dwindling food supplies. This situation is exacerbating the challenges faced by students who are unable to access basic necessities during these tense times. In Shiraz, reports of explosions in nearby areas further contributed to the escalating distress among the stranded students.

Protests by Concerned Parents

In light of these worrying developments, parents of the affected students gathered at Pratap Park to voice their concerns. They are demanding immediate action from the Government of India regarding the evacuation of their children from Iran. The distress of the families reflects the urgency and seriousness of the situation the students are facing.

AIMSA’s Plea to the Ministry of External Affairs

Dr. Mohammad Momin Khan, a representative of AIMSA, has expressed serious concerns regarding the safety of the Indian students in Iran. He has called upon the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to take immediate action for the evacuation of these students. The situation remains fluid, and AIMSA continues to advocate for the prompt and safe return of the stranded students to India.
