AIADMK Unveils 2026 Tamil Nadu Poll Manifesto with Aid, Subsidies, Women Support

The CSR Journal Magazine

On March 24, the General Secretary of the AIADMK and Leader of Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, announced the party’s election manifesto detailing 297 promises aimed at bolstering support for families. A key highlight of the manifesto is a monthly financial aid of Rs 2000 designated for female heads of households. This initiative is part of the party’s broader strategy to provide economic relief to citizens who have been impacted by rising costs and increased taxation.

The manifesto outlines a special assistance package of Rs 10,000 to each family to counteract the burdens associated with heightened prices of essential commodities and various local taxes, including property tax and increased electricity tariffs. “Due to the lack of effective governance under the ruling DMK, the public faces an overwhelming financial burden. Hence, we propose this assistance to alleviate their struggles,” Palaniswami stated during the manifesto release.

Social Welfare Initiatives for Women

A significant component of the unveiled manifesto is the ‘Kula Vilakku Scheme,’ which promises to transfer the Rs 2000 monthly assistance directly to the bank accounts of female heads of households who hold ration cards. This initiative aims to promote economic stability and empower women financially. Additionally, the AIADMK plans to enhance the food security of ration cardholders by providing them with lentils alongside rice and distributing refrigerators to improve food storage.

Free Transportation and Gas Subsidies

Beyond financial assistance, the party has pledged to extend the free bus travel program to men, which had previously been available only to women. The manifesto also includes a promise of three complimentary cooking gas cylinders per year for each ration cardholder, further supporting families amid rising living costs.

Upcoming Elections: Key Details and Alliances

The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are set to take place in a single phase on April 23, with results to be tallied on May 4. Under the seat-sharing arrangement of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the AIADMK-led coalition aims to contest over 170 seats in total. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been allocated 27 seats, while the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) will contest 18 seats, and the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) has been given 11 seats.

In what promises to be a competitive electoral landscape, the primary battle is expected to occur between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, which includes Congress, DMDK, and VCK, and the NDA coalition, led by AIADMK with support from BJP and PMK. Additionally, actor Vijay is anticipated to enter the fray as a candidate for the newly formed TVK party, potentially introducing a third significant contender in the upcoming elections.
