Adani Power Ltd., India’s largest private sector thermal power generator, announced today that it has received a Letter of Award (LoA) from MP Power Management Company Ltd. (MPPMCL) for the supply of electricity from a greenfield 800 MW Ultra-supercritical thermal power plant to be developed in Anuppur district, Madhya Pradesh. The project is a key initiative to support Madhya Pradesh’s increasing electricity demand driven by rapid industrialization and urbanization.
Investment of approximately ₹10,500 crore to build state-of-the-art facility
Adani Power will invest an estimated ₹10,500 crore to set up the 800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant along with the necessary infrastructure. This investment will help bolster the power capacity of Madhya Pradesh, ensuring a steady supply of electricity to households, industries, and businesses.
Tariff won through highly competitive bidding process
In a rigorous competitive bidding process conducted by the state, Adani Power emerged as one of the lowest bidders, offering a tariff of Rs 5.838 per unit (kWh). The project will be executed under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model, with the plant expected to be commissioned within 54 months from the appointed date.
Addressing growing energy needs in MP
As the state experiences rapid economic growth, the demand for reliable base load power continues to rise. Adani Power’s new plant at Anuppur will play a pivotal role in meeting this demand, contributing to Madhya Pradesh’s energy security and supporting continued industrial and urban development.
Coal linkage allocated under Government’s SHAKTI policy
The coal linkage for the power plant has been allocated to Madhya Pradesh under the Government of India’s SHAKTI policy, which facilitates fuel supply for new power projects. This allocation ensures a reliable coal supply, essential for the smooth operation of the thermal power plant.
The project is expected to generate direct and indirect employment of approximately 6,000 to 7,000 jobs during the construction phase. Once operational, the plant will provide employment to around 1,000 personnel, boosting the local economy and supporting community livelihoods.
Adani Power’s expanding footprint across India
This LoA marks the fourth major power supply order Adani Power has received in the past 12 months. In September 2024, Adani Power, along with Adani Green Energy, secured a Letter of Intent (LoI) for a composite 6,600 MW power supply order (5,000 MW solar and 1,600 MW thermal) from Maharashtra state.
In May 2025, the company received an LoA from the Uttar Pradesh government for 1,600 MW from a greenfield thermal plant. Most recently, in August 2025, it secured another LoA from Bihar for 2,400 MW of power from a new plant.
CEO Commits to Sustainable Growth
“As India’s power demand continues to rise, driven by rapid economic growth, especially the need for base load power, it is imperative to invest in robust energy infrastructure to meet the nation’s growing needs. Adani Power remains committed to securing India’s energy future sustainably by expanding capacity and embracing advanced technologies.”
“The Anuppur plant will play a pivotal role in ensuring reliable, affordable, and competitively priced power for households and businesses, strengthening India’s and Madhya Pradesh’s energy security and fueling continued progress in the state,” said Mr. SB Khyalia, Chief Executive Officer, Adani Power.
Next steps and future outlook
Adani Power expects to execute the Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with the State Discom in due course. The company is leveraging its expertise and technology to ensure timely completion and efficient operation of the new plant. This project underscores Adani Power’s role in transforming India into a power-surplus nation while providing quality, affordable electricity to meet future demands.
