Legendary Actor Satish Shah, From Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Main Hoon Na, Dies at 74

Veteran actor Satish Shah, celebrated for his memorable work in Indian cinema and television, passed away at Hinduja Hospital around 2:30 pm on Saturday. He was 74. Shah had been battling kidney issues and had recently undergone a transplant.

Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit confirmed the loss to NDTV, saying, “With a heavy heart, I want to say that our friend and a very good actor, Satish Shah, died around 2:30 pm today due to kidney failure. His health deteriorated while he was at home, and he was taken to the hospital immediately. Sadly, he couldn’t survive. His cremation will take place today. It’s a very big loss for the industry. I have worked with him on many projects.”

Pandit also shared on Instagram, “Sad and shocked to inform you that our dear friend and a great actor Satish Shah has expired a few hours ago due to kidney failure. He was rushed to Hinduja hospital where he breathed his last. A great loss to our industry. Om Shanti.”

Satish Shah: A Versatile Icon of Indian Cinema

Shah’s career, spanning over four decades, saw him become a household name. He earned cult fame with his performance in the 1983 satirical film ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’, where he brilliantly portrayed multiple characters. His contributions extended to films like ‘Hum Saath-Saath Hain’, ‘Main Hoon Na’, ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’, ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa’, ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, and ‘Om Shanti Om’, demonstrating his versatility across genres.

On television, Shah’s role as Indravadan Sarabhai in ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’ remains iconic, earning him enduring recognition. He was also a key part of the 1984 sitcom ‘Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi’, which became a milestone in Indian TV comedy.

His manager confirmed that Shah’s body remains at Hinduja Hospital, with funeral services scheduled for Sunday. His passing marks the loss of a treasured figure in Indian entertainment, remembered for his comic timing and versatile performances.
