Aamir Khan’s film Sitaare Zameen Par is set to be streamed on Sony LIV, reversing earlier assertions that the film would not be available on major OTT platforms. This announcement was made on March 9, highlighting a change from Khan’s prior commitment to an exclusive theatrical release followed by a limited digital availability. The film debuted in cinemas in June 2025 and was made accessible for rent on YouTube by August, roughly six weeks after its theatrical release.

According to Sony LIV, the availability of Sitaare Zameen Par represents a significant achievement for the platform, as it will be the first Hindi theatrical film to premiere there. Although the precise date for the film’s digital launch has not been disclosed, representatives from the platform have indicated that it will be “released soon.”

Earlier Statements by Aamir Khan

Earlier in July 2025, Aamir Khan generated considerable discussion when he stated that Sitaare Zameen Par would not release on OTT platforms for a minimum of six months following its theatrical performance. Contrary to this prediction, the film made its digital appearance on YouTube only six weeks post its theatre release. After starting its theatrical journey on June 20, viewers were able to rent it on YouTube from August 1 for Rs 100.

Press Conference Insights

During a press conference in Mumbai, the actor expressed remorse over the previous plans to circumvent traditional OTT releases in favor of YouTube. He admitted to not disclosing the strategy during the film’s promotional phase and explained his preference for the pay-per-view model over subscription-based options. Khan stated, “I fold my hands and apologize because I lied when I said Sitaare Zameen Par wouldn’t be released on YouTube. I did it because I had no other choice. I had to protect the film’s theatrical business. I am very loyal to theatres; my life began with cinema. Still, I apologize because I had to lie. Otherwise, my dreams for this film would’ve ended there.”
