Infosys has issued a formal response regarding recent allegations of workplace harassment at its Business Process Management (BPM) facility in Pune. This announcement came on April 15, 2023, after a series of posts on X highlighted inappropriate conduct towards female employees. The claims, which have since been removed, have garnered attention from officials, including Maharashtra Minister Nitesh Rane, who acknowledged the government’s awareness of the situation.

In its official statement, the company reiterated its unwavering commitment to ensuring a safe work environment. Infosys maintains a strict zero-tolerance stance towards any form of harassment or discrimination. The firm stated that every reported issue is taken seriously and investigated by an independent committee. Such measures are meant to cultivate a culture where employees feel encouraged to report any concerns they may have.

Furthermore, Infosys announced the activation of its internal processes aimed at investigating the claims while adhering to its global Code of Conduct. The company mentioned it has established proactive preventive programmes, fostering a supportive atmosphere for employees to speak up about their experiences without fear of reprisal.

Nashik TCS Case Under Investigation

Simultaneously, the investigation into the Nashik TCS facility has intensified amid these recent developments. Reports indicate that several female employees at TCS were allegedly subjected to harassment by senior staff members over a period from 2022 to 2026. To date, a total of nine cases have been lodged pertaining to this matter, with one report filed at the Deolali camp police station and the remainder at Mumbai Naka.

The case originally began with a complaint from a woman who claimed that a colleague exploited their relationship under the guise of marriage. Following her report, seven additional women came forward, sharing similar experiences, which has compounded the severity of the situation. Allegations have included sexual harassment, inappropriate touching, verbal abuse, stalking, and mental pressure within the workplace.

Some victims have alleged they were coerced into adopting certain religious practices or converting entirely. As a result of these investigations, multiple arrests have been made, including individuals such as Asif Ansari, Shafi Shaikh, Shahrukh Qureshi, Raza Memon, and Tausif Attar. Another individual connected to the claims is also in police custody.

Ongoing Investigations and Legal Proceedings

Investigative actions have included the examination of over 40 CCTV footages and the collection of statements from both victims and accused individuals. Authorities have also conducted an undercover operation with the assistance of female police personnel aimed at apprehending one of the suspects involved in the case. Notably, one of the accused, Ashwini Chainani, who serves as an Operations Manager at TCS, has been placed in 14-day judicial custody.

The investigation remains active, with officials highlighting their commitment to reviewing every aspect of the allegations thoroughly. Only once all inquiries are completed will conclusions regarding the cases be made. This unfolding situation reflects the increasing scrutiny of workplace safety in Maharashtra’s IT sector amidst serious allegations.
