In a tragic accident, a four-year old boy, Gattigorla Mokshith, died after being hit by a tractor. The tragedy occurred in Suryapet district on Thursday, June 12. The heart-wrenching incident occurred near a temple in Nemmikallu Dandu village, Athmakur (S) mandal. The incident has left the villagers in a state of shock.
Who was Gattigorla Mokshith?
Mokshith was son of Gattigorla Mahesh and Sravani, residents of Teluvari Gudem village in Kattangoor mandal of Nalgonda district. According to reports, Mokshith, was visiting their relatives at Nemmikal for a family function. The relatives residence is near the Dhandu Mysamma temple. The accident occurred around 12 noon when the young boy was crossing the road along with his relatives.
Incident captured on CCTV
Eyewitnesses and ghastly CCTV footages of the incident exposes the nightmare before the death of Mokshith. The video footage shows the boy was seen crossing the road when an overspeeding tractor, apparently not noticing him, mowed him down.
The tractor continued on its path without stopping, leaving the child crushed beneath its wheels. Onlookers quickly rushed to the scene, with one man lifting the critically injured boy in his arms as a crowd gathered. A passerby offered assistance, and the man immediately rushed Mokshith to a hospital. However the child had died instantly on the spot due to the severe injuries and was declared dead upon arriving at the hospital.
Body sent for Post-mortem
Athmakur (S) police were promptly informed and arrived at the scene. They shifted Mokshith’s body to the Government General Hospital in Suryapet for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered, and a notice of arrest has been issued against the tractor driver, with investigations currently underway.
Similar Fatal incident
This tragic event shows a concerning tendency of tractor-related accidents, especially in rural settings. A similar accident had happened only a few days ago in Tangadapally, Chevella, in which an 11-year-old girl succumbed to death after she accidentally fell off a tractor and under its rotavator. In that case, the tractor was driven by the uncle of the girl, and she was sucked in the rotor blades and fatally injured.
The regularity of the incidents highlights the importance of the increased safety precautions and vigilance of the traffic rules violations in regards to agricultural machines. The fragility of young children in such situations is quite alarming and requires more vigilance and attention by all road users.
Demands for road safety
This Suryapet tragedy is a grim reminder of how valuable the lives of young people are and how careless driving could lead to such disastrous aftermaths. Amid the grief of the loss of little Mokshith, demands of better road safety and accountable operation of vehicles are likely to increase so that such tragic events can be eliminated in the future.
