A significant meeting focused on Indo-Nepal border issues took place in Patna on September 26, chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. The gathering was held at the ‘Samvad’ hall located within the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and included key officials such as Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary. The discussions addressed various aspects of border security, law enforcement, and management of illegal activities in border regions.

Action Plan Against Illegal Activities

During the meeting, Chief Minister Choudhary emphasised that ensuring India’s security is a paramount obligation. He highlighted the ongoing efforts to enhance border security and management, especially given the sensitive nature of the Indo-Nepal border. Choudhary urged for improved collaboration among the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Bihar Police, and central agencies to effectively address illegal activities such as infiltration, counterfeit currency circulation, and drug trafficking.

The Chief Minister pointed out the necessity for special vigilance in combating these issues, advocating for the use of advanced detection machines for identifying counterfeit currency in border banks. He instructed relevant authorities to monitor suspicious financial transactions and to take appropriate action against dubious bank accounts.

Reiterating the commitment to combat drug-related crimes, Choudhary referred to the Central Government’s objective of ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat 2029’. He stressed the importance of robust action against drug trafficking, particularly to curb the flow of narcotics across the border region.

Coordination Between Agencies Needed

The Chief Minister proposed the establishment of regular monthly coordination meetings between District Magistrates, police officers from border areas, and central security as well as investigative agencies. He asserted that unregistered religious sites within these border regions should be clearly identified, followed by requisite actions in compliance with existing laws.

Choudhary also mentioned the need to enhance educational facilities in border areas, aiming to uplift the standard of living and provide better opportunities for local communities. He underscored the necessity for all relevant agencies to function with heightened vigilance and coordinated efforts.

Moreover, he called for the strengthening of the intelligence network in sensitive regions, ensuring prompt and lawful responses to any suspicious activities detected. This multifaceted approach aims to make border security more effective and responsive to emerging challenges.

Prominent Officials in Attendance

The meeting saw participation from several high-ranking officials, including the Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Deepak Kumar, Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit, and Director General of Police Preeta Verma among others. Additionally, various Principal Secretaries and Secretaries from different departments, as well as senior police officers, contributed to the discussions. District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police from border districts joined the meeting via video conferencing.

This collaborative approach highlights the commitment of both the Centre and the Bihar government to enhance security measures and manage the challenges posed by illegal activities in border regions. The concerted efforts are expected to contribute significantly to ensuring the safety and security of these sensitive areas.
