The CSR Journal Magazine

A 22-year-old motorcyclist tragically lost his life following a collision with a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus in the Punjabi Bagh area of Delhi. The incident occurred on the morning and has since led to significant unrest among local residents and the victim’s family. The deceased, identified as Sonu, was a resident of a nearby JJ cluster and reportedly died at the scene of the accident.

Crowd Reaction and Vandalism

In the aftermath of the collision, a large crowd gathered at the site, expressing their outrage and grief. As police arrived to manage the situation and remove Sonu’s body, tensions escalated. Family members and local residents began protesting, chanting slogans against the DTC and demanding justice for the deceased. During this unrest, the crowd vandalised another DTC bus that happened to be passing through the area.

At the time of the vandalism, approximately 15 passengers were aboard the bus, but fortunately, none sustained any injuries. The driver of the vandalised bus, Parvez, recounted that he was en route to the bus stand when he discovered the body on the road. He stated that the crowd then proceeded to damage his vehicle, reflecting the heightened emotions surrounding the incident.

Reports indicate that the driver of the DTC bus involved in the fatal collision fled the scene shortly after the accident. This has raised further concerns among the local community regarding accountability and safety on the roads.

Police Investigation Underway

In response to the incident, the West district police have initiated an investigation to locate the DTC bus involved in the accident and apprehend its driver. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Hareshwar V Swami, authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity to gather evidence and identify the bus responsible for the collision.

Additional DCP Abhishek Gupta confirmed that police received a call regarding the accident through the emergency PCR service early in the morning. A dedicated team has been deployed to search for the bus and ensure appropriate action is taken against those responsible for the accident. The police are committed to addressing the concerns raised by the community and ensuring justice for the victim.

The investigation is ongoing, and police officials have urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward. The local community remains on high alert, advocating for improved road safety measures and accountability from public transport services.
