Viral Meerut SUV Incident Linked to Family Dispute, Not Kidnapping

The CSR Journal Magazine

A woman in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, was filmed trying to exit a moving SUV while engaged in a heated argument with her husband. This event, which occurred on Tuesday, sparked fears of a kidnapping after a video of the incident circulated widely on social media platforms. The footage depicted a black SUV travelling at speed with one of its doors ajar and a woman screaming inside, leading to public concern.

Investigations revealed that the incident stemmed from a domestic quarrel rather than an abduction. The argument began after the woman, identified as Nisha, discovered a strand of hair in her food while the couple was travelling in the vehicle. The heated exchange escalated, prompting Nisha to open the door of the moving SUV and attempt to jump out, a decision observed and filmed by a motorcyclist following behind.

The motorcyclist and his companion, alerted by the woman’s distress and the sudden opening of the SUV’s door, pursued the vehicle for approximately three kilometres. They managed to capture the incident on video, which they later shared on social media, leading to public alarm and the filing of a report with local authorities.

Police Response and Investigation Progress

Upon receiving reports suggesting a possible kidnapping, local police acted swiftly, initiating a search operation during the night. Despite their efforts, initial attempts to locate the vehicle were unsuccessful. The urgency of the situation prompted Superintendent of Police (City) Vinayak Gopal Bhosale to review CCTV footage the following day.

Through CCTV analysis, officers tracked down the SUV and subsequently conducted further questioning. The investigation clarified that the situation was related to a domestic dispute rather than a kidnapping. According to police statements, after the argument, Nisha’s husband, Imran, continued to drive toward his niece’s home, where he eventually dropped off Nisha and their child before departing for Delhi that night.

Following the identification of Imran’s niece, Atika Shah, as someone living in Meerut, police were able to piece together the sequence of events surrounding the incident. Officers recorded a statement from Nisha, in which she reaffirmed that the distressing situation arose solely from an argument with her husband.

Investigation and Future Steps

The police have since concluded their investigation, finding no evidence of kidnapping. Public bystanders had misinterpreted the domestic altercation, mistaking the couple’s disagreement as a more severe incident. Authorities have summoned Imran to Meerut for further questioning, allowing the investigation to proceed expeditiously while ensuring that the couple’s issues are addressed appropriately.
