The state of Uttar Pradesh has mandated that teachers in schools complete ten sensitisation videos prior to screening students under the Prashast 2.0 initiative. This initiative aims to identify the educational needs of Gen-Alpha students as well as the support they may require in their learning environment.

These sensitisation videos, totalling approximately forty minutes in length, are designed to introduce educators to the unique educational requirements of Gen-Alpha children. The videos will cover the screening process and provide guidance on the additional support that may be appropriate following the identification of students’ needs.

This preparation is essential to ensure that teachers are adequately equipped before the screening commences, promoting a more sensitive and consistent assessment of students across the state.

Accessing the Sensitisation Material

Teachers will have to engage with all ten videos via the Prashast App or an online portal. Upon completing the video training, they will need to fulfill the onboarding process before they can participate in the screening of students. This requirement guarantees that all educators have a standard understanding of the process prior to initiating the screening exercises.

The videos focus on key indicators and considerations for teachers as they assess a child’s educational needs, aiming to facilitate the identification of necessary support mechanisms effectively.

The initiative encompasses not only government-run Parishadiya schools but also extends to teachers from government, private-aided, and private-unaided institutions. This broad approach ensures that educators from various school types can access uniform sensitisation materials on a common digital platform.

Implementation and Monitoring of the Initiative

The state’s education department has issued directives to Divisional Assistant Directors of Education along with District Basic Education Officers. These officials are tasked with ensuring that the teachers under their jurisdiction complete the sensitisation videos as prescribed.

These instructions were issued following guidance from Monika Rani, the Director General of School Education. Authorities have been directed to monitor the completion of this mandatory preparatory process to guarantee that all teachers are ready ahead of the screening initiative.

The overarching objective of this sensitisation programme is to enable schools to identify the educational requirements of children early on and discern what additional support might be essential. By having teachers first prepared through this training, the state is aiming for a more effective and sensitive approach to the screening process.
