On February 27, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attended the Kali Kumaon Holi Rang Mahotsav in Lohaghat, receiving an enthusiastic reception from local residents and party supporters. The event marked the beginning of Holi celebrations in the region, where the Chief Minister expressed his joy at the turnout.

Remarks by the Chief Minister

During his address, Dhami greeted attendees and acknowledged the presence of notable figures, including Ajay Tamta, the Union Minister and MP for Almora-Pithoragarh, along with Govind Samant, the District President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Anand Singh Adhikari, the Zila Panchayat Chairperson, and other senior local officials. He conveyed his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes for the Holi festival, highlighting the importance of love and happiness associated with this occasion.

Cultural Significance of Holi

The Chief Minister emphasized the cultural importance of the festival, mentioning different forms of Holi celebrated in the area, such as Khadi Holi and Baithki Holi. He expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to return to Lohaghat, underscoring the rich traditions and heritage of the Kumaon region. DHami acknowledged the role of organizers like Jivan Mehta in preserving and promoting these cultural practices for future generations.

Promoting Unity and Tradition

In his speech, Dhami articulated that Holi symbolizes social unity and brotherhood, encouraging attendees to set aside differences and embrace one another during the festivities. He reminisced about his childhood experiences of eagerly awaiting Holi, recalling aspects such as traditional sweets like Gujiyas and the lively atmosphere created by folk songs and traditional drums. The Chief Minister expressed a vision for the continuity of these vibrant traditions throughout the year.

Development Initiatives Announced

As part of his visit, Dhami announced significant development initiatives for the region, stating that he laid the foundation for 45 projects worth over ₹162 crore. He reiterated that all areas within the district, including Lohaghat, Champawat, Devidhura, and Talla Desh, will be prioritized for development efforts. This commitment aims to enhance infrastructure and overall growth in these communities, reflecting his dedication to the area’s progress.
