Uttar Pradesh Man Kills Wife with Scissors in Front of Children

The CSR Journal Magazine

A tragic incident occurred in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, where a man named Nafees fatally attacked his wife, Najma, with a pair of scissors in the presence of their children. The altercation, which took place late Sunday night, stemmed from an ongoing dispute regarding Nafees’s desire to divorce Najma in order to marry his aunt, a relationship she vehemently opposed. The couple had been married for 15 years and had been living separately for some time.

The Fatal Attack

According to accounts from the scene, Nafees arrived at Najma’s rented residence in Mandi Kishan Das Sarai, where a heated argument ensued. The disagreement culminated in Nafees stabbing Najma multiple times with the scissors. Following the incident, he reportedly attempted to take his own life using the same weapon. Neighbors, alerted by the commotion, intervened and prevented him from succeeding in his actions.

Emergency Response and Medical Treatment

Both Najma and Nafees were transported to the Sambhal district hospital for medical attention. Najma worked as an Asha worker and had recently moved out with their four children after discovering her husband’s relationship with his aunt. Reports indicate that Nafees had been pressuring her to agree to a divorce, which she refused, leading to the escalation of tensions between them.

Background and Marital Issues

The couple had resided in Sarayateen town under the jurisdiction of Hayatnagar police station in Sambhal for the past four years. Nafees operated a nearby medical store, while Najma continued her work as an Asha worker despite ongoing marital disputes for the last two years. Colleagues of Najma have revealed that she had wished to reconcile with her husband, but he remained steadfast in his intention to pursue a relationship with his aunt, further straining their marriage.

Police Intervention and Investigation

Law enforcement arrived swiftly at the scene following the incident and took possession of the scissors that were used in the attack. They registered a murder case against Nafees based on a complaint filed by Najma’s husband, Akil. Ongoing investigations include questioning Nafees’s aunt, who is believed to have played a role in the situation. Senior police officials confirmed that the investigations are active and that the post-mortem examination of the deceased had been conducted, with legal proceedings expected to follow as the inquiry develops.
