Uttar Pradesh Intensifies Actions Against Adulterated Food Items Before Holi

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Uttar Pradesh Food Safety and Drug Administration has initiated a comprehensive statewide operation to tackle the sale of adulterated food products in anticipation of Holi. The crackdown has resulted in significant seizures of various items, particularly edible oils, paneer, mawa, and sweets, across several districts. Officials cited rising consumer demand for dairy and sweet items during the festive time as the impetus for the enhanced enforcement activities aimed at safeguarding food quality.

Massive Seizures of Edible Oils Reported

In Hapur, officials reported the confiscation of approximately 32,500 litres of suspected adulterated edible oil during inspections of both manufacturing and storage facilities. The suspected products have been sent to laboratories for thorough testing. The larger statewide operation has culminated in the seizure of close to 30,000 units of edible oil from various locations throughout Uttar Pradesh, reflecting the scale of the initiative.

Destruction of Contaminated Dairy Products

In the Tilpata region of Gautam Buddha Nagar, officials took decisive action by destroying 200 kg of contaminated paneer just ahead of the festival. Similarly, in Rampur Maniharan, located in Saharanpur, authorities seized 6.30 quintals of suspected illegal paneer as part of the ongoing effort. Ghaziabad experienced a significant enforcement action, where within a span of 72 hours, officials destroyed 2,500 kg of paneer and 200 kg of mawa deemed unfit for human consumption.

Raids Uncover Adulterated Sweets

Additional inspections led to the raid of a rasgulla manufacturing facility in Sambhal, where approximately 225 kg of sweets were destroyed due to contamination concerns. In Barabanki, food inspectors collected a total of six samples during their evaluations. These samples included items such as khoya, milk, namkeen, and colored kachri, all of which have been sent for lab analysis. The results from these tests will determine the next steps in action against the producers involved.

Public Awareness Emphasized During Festivities

The Food Safety and Drug Administration urged consumers to exercise caution and vigilance concerning food purchases during the Holi celebrations. With the heightened focus on food safety, authorities aim to protect public health and ensure that celebrants enjoy a safe and joyous festive season.
