Mr Bhupender Yadav, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change urged the recycling industry in the country to develop and adopt newer innovative technologies for reducing dependence on natural resources as well as cutting down imports of critical minerals needed for economic growth.
“The country at present is facing two major challenges including sustaining economic growth and sustaining natural resources. The Circular economy has a major role to play for economic growth, environmental sustainability, and social Impact: Creating green jobs and promoting sustainable practices.” Said Mr Bhupender Yadav , Union Minister of environment while inaugurating a day long conclave on ‘Waste Recycling & Climate Change’ organised by the Recycling and Environment Industry Association of India (REIAI)
“The circular economy has a major role in the future including reducing, reusing, and recycling at every stage, from product design to end-of-life management.waste should not be treated as a burden but as a resource. Adopting sustainable practices is crucial for achieving economic resilience, environmental sustainability, and social security.” Said Mr Yadav.
“Various policies spearheaded by the Government of India and ministry of environment including the Plastic Waste Management Rules, Construction and Demolition Waste Management Rules, E-Waste Management Rules, and the Motor Vehicle Scrap Policy. These initiatives aim to streamline waste management and promote eco-friendly production across industries” the minister said.
Circular Economy
“By the year 2050 the circular economy is expected to have a market value of US $ Two Trillion and create 10 million jobs, it’s a big opportunity for start-ups and new recycled product developers.The importance of aligning this growth with environmental sustainability, drawing inspiration from nature’s efficient recycling systems as nobody recycles like Nature”. The minister added.
The circular economy by incorporating recyclable designs, promoting sustainability in dealership operations, and enhancing consumer awareness. Let’s aspire for a Green & Sustainable Viksit Bharat. Achieving zero waste and eco-friendly production requires a skilled workforce in recycling technologies and eco-friendly product design,” said Yadav
“There is a huge gap and huge potential to work towards waste recycling system, as the role of recycling industry is important cut imports various critical products needed for economic growth .The corporates houses should lead the transition to a circular economy by incorporating recyclable designs, promoting sustainability in dealership operations, and enhancing consumer awareness.” Said Dr Amandeep Garg , Additional Secretary , Ministry of Environment and forests and Chairman, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) .
About 200 delegates environmental scientists, waste management professionals and policymakers attended the conclave with focus on effective sustainable recycling practices.
“More than 200 recycling experts, environmental scientists, waste management professionals, policymakers, industry leaders from recycling companies, working on waste treatment technologies and waste reduction participated and discussed ways and means for effective recycling practices and protecting the environment.” said Dr Ashok Kumar Gupta, President, Recycling and Environment Industry Association of India (REIAI).
“Some of the subjects discussed during the conclave included e-waste and recycling technologies, circular economy and waste management ,sustainable e-waste management , industry perspectives and innovations, capacity building and skill development in the sector” said Mr Gupta.
