Two Brothers Arrested for Fatal Stabbing in Delhi’s Shastri Park

What began as a late-night attack near a quiet park in northeast Delhi ended with the death of a 33-year-old man and the arrest of two brothers from his own neighbourhood.

Wasim, who lived in the Buland Masjid area of Shastri Park, was stabbed multiple times near the loop road behind a DDA park close to his home on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. He was taken to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, but doctors could not save him.

“The deceased was identified as Wasim, a resident of Buland Masjid, Shastri Park, aged 33 years,” said a police officer.

Police at Shastri Park station were alerted by the hospital around midnight. Soon after, forensic teams were sent to the spot to collect evidence, while officers began scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas to trace the attackers.

Accused Arrested

After conducting multiple raids, police arrested two siblings — Shakir (26) and Islam alias Border (22). Both are residents of the same locality as the victim. The arrests were made by a team led by Inspector Manjeet Tomar, SHO of Shastri Park police station.

“During sustained interrogation, they confessed to committing the crime and disclosed that they had a prior dispute with the deceased,” the police officer said.

The knife allegedly used in the murder was later recovered at the instance of the accused.

Investigators are also looking into Wasim’s past, as he had earlier survived two attempts on his life. In one case last year, a labourer was shot dead inside GTB Hospital after being mistaken for Wasim. Police say they are examining whether the latest killing was driven by personal enmity or a property-related dispute.

Further investigation is ongoing.
