TVK Chief Vijay Criticizes DMK for Alleged Corruption in Tamil Nadu Election Campaign Rally

The CSR Journal Magazine

Vijay, the leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), addressed supporters at an election campaign meeting in Salem on February 13, emphasizing that while his party lacks political experience, it “does not have experience in looting.” This statement emerged amidst a pointed critique of the ruling DMK party, led by Chief Minister MK Stalin, as the state prepares for the 2026 assembly elections.

Vijay questioned the qualifications of those who challenge his party’s experience, asserting, “What other qualities do these individuals have except for scamming experience?” His remarks follow the recent announcement by Chief Minister Stalin that ₹5,000 had been credited to women beneficiaries under the Kalaignar Women’s Rights Scheme. Vijay dismissed this financial aid as a mere tactic to attract voters, describing it as a “lure” rather than a sincere welfare initiative.

Highlighting the alleged timing of the financial assistance, he pointed out that the monthly disbursement typically occurs on the 15th but was issued two days earlier this time. Vijay urged Stalin to publicly clarify who purportedly attempted to obstruct this financial support, questioning the credibility of such claims. He contended that the DMK is attempting to secure votes through monetary incentives, stating that the electorate should not be treated as “fools.”

Concerns Over Law and Order

During his speech, Vijay also raised concerns regarding the deteriorating law and order situation in Tamil Nadu, particularly focusing on incidents of violence against women. He accused the DMK government of exerting dictatorial control and highlighted issues regarding permission for political gatherings. “I did not come to Salem merely to seek votes but to pursue justice,” he asserted, indicating that his party often faces obstacles in obtaining the necessary permits for events while other parties receive approvals more readily.

He attributed these challenges to what he termed “Stalin’s operational protocol,” hinting at an unequal treatment of various political parties. Vijay questioned the sincerity of the DMK’s electoral alliance under the slogan “Let’s Win Together,” arguing that such promises are only valid until the elections are over. Once in power, he claimed, the DMK operates independently.

Focus on Upcoming Elections

As the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approach, Vijay contended that the competition will largely be a direct battle between him and Chief Minister Stalin, accusing the latter’s government of being “anti-people.” Speaking at a TVK executive meeting in Seelanayakkanpatti, he stated, “There is no space for any other contender in the forthcoming electoral battle,” emphasizing that the people’s desire is to oust the DMK and replace it with the TVK.

In a related incident during the rally, a 37-year-old man from Maharashtra, named Suraj, reportedly suffered a heart attack and collapsed. Despite being rushed to a hospital, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Local authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding his collapse.

The Tamil Nadu Assembly, consisting of 234 members, is set to hold elections in the first half of 2026. In the previous election cycle of 2021, the DMK secured 133 seats, while its allies, including Congress and others, collectively garnered 159 seats. The AIADMK, a significant opponent, won 66 seats, while the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) obtained 75 seats.
