Dal-Rice Turns Deadly: Thane Mother Poisons 3 Minor Daughters to Death Over Husband’s Alcohol Addiction

In a tragic incident a 27-year-old woman from Thane district, Maharashtra, was arrested early Sunday morning. The woman was arrested for allegedly killing her three daughters by poisoning them.

According to police reports, Sandhya Sandeep Bere, a housewife from Asnoli village in Shahapur area. She mixed pesticide into a traditional dish, varan bhat, and served it to her daughters on July 20. Her daughters were aged 5, 8, and 10-years-old.

Children fell ill, died over several days

Soon after eating the meal, all three children began vomiting and showed signs of dizziness. They were initially taken to a nearby hospital. As their condition deteriorated, two were transferred to a hospital in Mumbai and died on July 24 and 25. The third daughter was moved to Nashik, where she died on July 24.

At first, the incident was registered as a case of accidental death at Khinavli police station. However, postmortem findings received on Saturday revealed traces of poison in the children’s bodies. Based on this forensic evidence, police arrested Bere around 2 a.m. on Sunday. The police also filed murder charges against her.

Domestic issues and strained life cited as motive

Police sources revealed that Bere had been battling domestic troubles, particularly her husband’s alcohol addiction. The couple had separated, and she was living alone with the children. Officials believe the mental stress from her circumstances led to the tragic act. Her in-laws had reportedly suspected her involvement from the beginning.

The woman was initially detained for questioning and taken into custody following the forensic confirmation. Authorities said further investigation is underway to establish the full sequence of events and any possible additional factors in the case.
