Tailor Hacked to Death in Broad Daylight in Patna City, CCTV Footage Shows

The CSR Journal Magazine

A middle-aged man was hacked to death in broad daylight in Patna City in a brutal attack that was captured on CCTV cameras, police and eyewitnesses said on Thursday, February 12, 2026. The incident occurred near Bengali Colony Mor, triggering panic among residents in the busy neighbourhood.

The victim, identified as Mohammad Raees, 44, was a resident of Bakshi Maidan and worked as a tailor. The surveillance footage released by authorities shows a machete-wielding attacker repeatedly striking Raees before calmly walking away from the scene.

Family Alleges Relative’s Involvement

Raees’s daughter, Shabnam Khatoon, has publicly accused her own cousin of carrying out the murder. She told reporters that the accused, described as a drug addict and alcoholic, had frequently threatened Raees and that family members often intervened to stop him from consuming intoxicants. “He used to say, ‘I will kill him,’ but we did not know he would actually do something like this,” she said.

Khatoon suggested that repeated confrontations over the suspect’s substance abuse may have led to the attack, though investigators have not yet confirmed a motive or made any arrests. Police have said the CCTV footage is now part of the ongoing investigation.

Police Probe Underway

Patna police have taken the footage into evidence as they probe the circumstances surrounding the murder. A detailed official statement on the investigation, including whether the accused has been apprehended, is still awaited. Senior officers said they are reviewing witness accounts and forensic material as they work to piece together the events leading up to the killing.

Local residents expressed shock at the attack, which unfolded during the day in a busy area of the city, and urged authorities to act quickly to ensure justice in the case.

The incident highlights rising concerns over public safety and violence in urban areas, even in broad daylight, and comes as police continue efforts to improve law and order in Patna and surrounding districts.
