Supreme Court Grants Bail to Two Accused in Sidhu Moosewala Murder Case

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Supreme Court of India has approved bail for Pawan Bishnoi and Jagtar Singh, both of whom are connected to the 2022 murder of Punjabi artist Siddhu Moosewala. This decision was made during a hearing on March 13, where the bench, comprised of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, examined arguments presented by the defense counsels for both individuals.

Pawan Bishnoi’s Allegations

Pawan Bishnoi has been implicated in the case for allegedly arranging the Bolero vehicle utilized during the assassination of Moosewala. His lawyer, Advocate Abhay Kumar, contended that the accusations against Bishnoi stemmed from a coerced confession made while Bishnoi was already in custody for another matter. Kumar asserted that there is insufficient evidence linking Bishnoi to the murder apart from this statement, which he labeled as unreliable.

Duration of Custody and Witnesses

The attorney further emphasized that the case includes approximately 180 prosecution witnesses and noted that Bishnoi had spent over three and a half years in detention. These details were part of the argument advocating for granting bail, suggesting that the lengthy period of incarceration without conclusive evidence warranted reconsideration of his request for release.

Jagtar Singh’s Defense

In a parallel argument, the defense for Jagtar Singh maintained that he played no role in the crime, asserting that he is simply a neighbor and did not partake in any reconnaissance or planning concerning the murder. Singh’s legal counsel highlighted that the accusations against him were unfounded and did not substantiate any involvement in the events surrounding Moosewala’s death.

Appeals to Supreme Court

Both accused had previously sought bail from the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which declined their requests. Following this decision, they moved to the Supreme Court, where they presented their case for reconsideration. The apex court, after weighing the arguments from both parties, deemed it appropriate to grant bail to Bishnoi and Singh.

Context of the Case

The murder of Siddhu Moosewala has been a highly publicized incident, drawing significant attention due to its implications within the music industry and in broader societal discussions about crime and violence. Various individuals have been implicated in the case, with law enforcement pursuing extensive investigations into the network surrounding the incident.
