Students Organise Silent March in Hazaribagh Against Alleged Police Actions

The CSR Journal Magazine

On August 22, a silent march was conducted by students in Hazaribagh to protest against alleged police actions following a recent demonstration. The protest aimed to clarify the intentions of the students and showcase their commitment to peaceful methods. The participants began their march from Hazaribagh and made their way to the district headquarters, carrying flower garlands and pens as symbols of goodwill.

Students expressed their strong opposition to claims suggesting that their actions were intended to incite violence or unrest. A student representative highlighted that the protestors have never wished for violence or any disruptive behaviour. He asserted that their protests were solely aimed at voicing their legitimate concerns and demands, rather than engaging in any form of misconduct.

In their message to authority figures, the protesting students emphasised that their approach was grounded in non-violence. They wanted to convey their desire for peaceful interactions, highlighting that their primary interest lies in gaining access to educational opportunities and resources available to them.

Details of the Protest Actions

The march consisted of students walking in a silent manner, indicating their resolve against what they referred to as unwarranted police action. Participants were determined to communicate their message without resorting to aggressive tactics. They aimed to clearly show law enforcement and governmental representatives that they are peaceful students advocating for their rights.

Participants in the silent march commented that the act of handing flower garlands and pens to police officials represented a gesture of goodwill and a call for dialogue. The students sought to illustrate that their objective was to express their grievances and that they were not troublemakers, despite prior allegations regarding their behaviour during protests.

One protestor mentioned that the march was a means to demonstrate their identity as dedicated students. He deemed it crucial to show the government that their demands for educational justice must be acknowledged and fulfilled. The students voiced a shared aspiration to spend time studying and engaging in academic activities, indicating their yearning for a conducive learning environment.

Context of the Demonstration

The silent march was initiated following events from the previous day when a demonstration took place, organised by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission-Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JPSC-JSSC) Reform Forum. The forum had called upon students to express their dissatisfaction with the High Court’s decision to delay the cancellation of JPSC examinations and related appointments. In light of this, the march was intended to reinforce their concerns in a composed manner.

Ranchi’s Deputy Superintendent of Police, KV Raman, remarked on the incidents leading to the protest, stating that police had to employ mild force due to alleged violations by protesters regarding the designated route during the previous demonstration. This situation prompted the students to organise a more structured and peaceful response.

The peaceful protest illustrates the ongoing struggles faced by students within the region, highlighting their continued efforts to engage authorities and further their rightful demands. The need for dialogue between students and governmental representatives remains pressing, as both parties seek resolution regarding educational issues impacting students across Jharkhand.
