SpiceJet Flights Delayed Following Check-In Disruption, Passengers Stranded at Delhi Airport

The CSR Journal Magazine

On September 19, 2026, several SpiceJet flights originating from Delhi experienced significant delays due to operational challenges, impacting over 500 passengers. Reports indicate that both domestic and international services were affected, with key routes to Leh, Jammu, and Dubai experiencing interruptions. Check-in disruptions were reported around 2.30 am at Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal 1, where staff for Leh-bound services allegedly failed to report for duty.

SpiceJet confirmed that the impacted flights eventually departed and reached their destinations. A spokesperson for the airline issued an apology for the inconvenience caused to passengers, clarifying that flights SG121 and SG127, as well as SG2160 to Jammu, faced delays attributed to operational reasons. They affirmed that all affected flights had been resolved by later in the morning.

Significant Delays for Leh-Bound Flights

Among the most affected was flight SG127, which was scheduled to depart at 4.50 am. After a delay of more than four hours, it finally took off around 9 am. Passengers waiting for check-in reported confusion and uncertainty regarding the situation, as no clear information was initially provided. Following heightened frustration among the crowd, a duty manager intervened to restore order and assist the passengers.

Additionally, flight SG121 was set to leave at 6.10 am, while flight SG125 was planned for an 8.45 am departure. The Jammu-bound flight SG2160, initially scheduled for 7.40 am, was also delayed by over an hour. These delays collectively stranded nearly 450 passengers from Terminal 1 alone.

The situation was compounded by the international flight SG5111 to Dubai, which was delayed as well. It was due to depart at 7.45 am but ultimately took off at 9.42 am, further escalating the total number of affected passengers. By late morning, all domestic flights had successfully departed, including the delayed Dubai service.

Delhi Airport Responds to Passenger Needs

In response to the situation, Delhi Airport issued a statement addressing the delays and confirmed that efforts were being made to coordinate with SpiceJet and other relevant stakeholders to assist those impacted. The airport expressed regret over the inconvenience faced by passengers and communicated that teams were actively working to restore normal operations.

Visual documentation shared by Delhi Airport depicted large crowds waiting in check-in areas. Passengers were seen carrying their luggage as they waited for information about their flights. The airport authorities also distributed water to those affected while thanking passengers for their patience and cooperation during this challenging period.

This incident marks the second disruption involving SpiceJet within a week. On September 15, two flights from Delhi to Dubai faced delays exceeding 24 hours due to grounded aircraft, which led to passenger protests at the airport. SpiceJet had subsequently apologised for this prior disruption, citing operational challenges and offering alternate flight arrangements.
