Smriti Mandhana Gets Engaged to Singer Palash Muchhal at DY Patil Stadium

The CSR Journal Magazine

India’s cricket star Smriti Mandhana and music composer Palash Muchhal have announced their engagement in a memorable celebration at Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium, the site where India recently won the Women’s World Cup. The couple is set to marry on 23 November.

A Surprise Proposal on the Pitch

In a heartfelt moment captured on video and shared by Palash, the singer is seen guiding a blindfolded Smriti to the center of the stadium. Once the blindfold was removed, Palash went down on one knee and presented her with a ring. Celebrating the occasion online, he wrote: “She said yes.” Friends and family, including Palash’s sister Palak Muchhal, rushed to join them on the pitch in jubilation. Smriti also slipped the ring onto Palash’s finger, and the couple proudly showed off their rings together.

Engagement Shared with Fans

Smriti made her engagement public through a fun and lively Instagram reel featuring her World Cup-winning teammates Jemimah Rodrigues, Radha Yadav, and Shreyanka Patil. The group danced to the song “Samjho Ho Hi Gaya” from the film Lage Raho Munna Bhai, ending with Smriti lifting her hand to flaunt her engagement ring. The reel delighted fans across social media with its playful and heartfelt tone.

Warm Wishes from the Prime Minister

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to the couple in a letter, describing their union as the “joining of two accomplished journeys.” He emphasised that love, trust, and companionship are essential for a lasting marriage and noted their wedding date in the message.

A Relationship of Mutual Support

The couple has maintained a steady and mostly private relationship, supporting each other through their respective careers. Palash frequently cheered for Smriti and the Indian women’s cricket team, including during the World Cup final. He also shared celebratory moments online, once writing: “Am I still dreaming? (sic)” and showing a tattoo ‘SM18’ that represents Mandhana’s initials and jersey number.

Smriti’s Stellar Cricket Achievements

Smriti has been in exceptional form on the field. As deputy to captain Harmanpreet Kaur, she scored a record 434 runs in nine innings at the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, making her the highest run-scorer by an Indian in a single edition. She also scored a memorable century against New Zealand in a key league match, finishing the tournament as the second-highest scorer overall behind South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt.

Last year, Smriti became the first Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain to win the Women’s Premier League title. Alongside her cricketing milestones, her engagement to Palash marks an exciting new chapter in her personal life.
