Security Alert at Bagdogra Army Camp: Bangladeshi National Arrested Undercover as Supervisor

The CSR Journal Magazine

The security perimeter of the sensitive Bengdubi Army Cantonment, located near Bagdogra, has been compromised following the arrest of a Bangladeshi national who was allegedly working as a construction supervisor within the premises while concealing his true identity.

The suspect, identified as Nanda Mondal, was apprehended by Army personnel on Wednesday. He was detained after documents confirming his Bangladeshi citizenship were discovered on his mobile phone. Mondal has since been transferred to the Bagdogra Police Station for comprehensive investigation.

Identity Concealment Exposed by Mobile Data

Mondal was reportedly employed inside the military camp as a supervisor for ongoing construction work. His working identity documents falsely claimed he was a resident of Jalpaiguri, India.

However, the files recovered from his phone painted a different picture, revealing his genuine address in Munshiganj, Bangladesh.

Military sources indicated that during initial questioning, Mondal admitted to being a Bangladeshi citizen. He claimed to have been working as a labourer in the general area since October 29, 2025. Authorities are particularly interested in the three to four days preceding his arrest, during which he was allegedly observed closely monitoring the movement of Army personnel within the camp.

Infiltration Raises Major Security Questions

The incident has triggered serious concerns regarding the security protocols at the high-security installation. Authorities are questioning the apparent ease with which a foreign national could secure a sensitive position like ‘supervisor’ on a major military base, especially just days after reportedly entering India illegally on October 29.

The timing of this arrest is also notable, coinciding with the state’s Special Intensified Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, raising administrative and security alarms across the region.

Second Arrest Fuels ‘Chicken’s Neck’ Surveillance

The latest breach is especially alarming as it follows a similar, high-profile incident just months ago:

Previous Incident: On May 10, another Bangladeshi national, who was later alleged to be a former operative of a Bangladeshi intelligence agency, was arrested from the same Bengdubi area.

With this being the second arrest of a Bangladeshi citizen near the high-security military installation within a short period, authorities have significantly intensified surveillance around the cantonment. Increased vigilance is also being applied across the broader Siliguri Corridor, a geostrategically critical area often nicknamed the ‘Chicken’s Neck’ due to its narrow width.
