In a brazen daylight robbery that shocked residents of Ghaziabad, two men dressed as food delivery agents looted a jewellery store in the Brij Vihar area on Thursday. The robbers, posing as Swiggy and Blinkit delivery personnel, entered Mansi Jewellers around 3:30 PM. They fled with valuables worth over ₹35 lakh within six minutes.

The incident occurred when the shop owner, Krishna Kumar Verma, had stepped out briefly, leaving the store under the care of an 18-year-old employee, Shubham Kumar. The robbers, arriving on a motorcycle and wearing delivery uniforms and helmets to conceal their identities, brandished a firearm and physically assaulted the staff before emptying the showcases.

Loot Estimated at Over ₹35 Lakh

The robbers escaped with approximately 20 kilograms of silver, 125 grams of gold jewellery, and ₹20,000 in cash. Based on current market rates, the total value of the stolen goods is estimated to be between ₹35 and ₹38 lakh. The theft was caught on CCTV, with footage showing the duo entering the shop under the pretense of delivering a parcel.

Following a complaint by the shop owner, the Ghaziabad Police launched a probe and registered a case. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Trans Hindon Zone) Nimish Patil confirmed that the police responded swiftly and formed six dedicated teams to crack the case. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding areas and suspect that the duo had conducted surveillance on the shop prior to the robbery.

Security Concerns Rise Among Local Traders

The incident has sparked widespread concern among shopkeepers and residents, who are now calling for enhanced police patrolling and better security in commercial areas.Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Sahibabad, Shweta Yadav, stated, “The suspects forced their way in, brandished a country-made firearm, and physically assaulted the staff before looting the store.” “The robbers appeared well-prepared and executed the crime swiftly while the shop was momentarily vulnerable,” said ACP Yadav.

“The entire robbery was executed between 3.30pm and 3.36pm. Five teams have been formed to investigate the matter. We are examining CCTV footage from the shop and nearby areas. We are also probing the possible involvement of the employee who was present during the incident,” said Shweta Yadav, ACP of Sahibabad.

This case highlights a growing pattern in recent crimes where burglars disguise themselves as delivery personnel. Similar incidents have occurred across India, including burglaries in Pune, Delhi, Mumbai, and Vasant Kunj, where suspects exploited the trust associated with delivery services to commit thefts and assaults.

“In PS Link Road, at around 4 PM, information was received that, around 3.30 PM, two unknown men entered his jewellery shop, threatened the worker and looted around 20 kg of silver ornaments and 125 g of gold ornaments,” ANI quoted DCP Patil as saying. “Police immediately reached the site and inspected it. 6 teams have been formed to solve the case,” he added.

Public Reacts With Sarcasm and Outrage

On social media, the incident triggered a mix of shock and sarcasm. Users joked about the heist being a “10-minute jewellery delivery” and mocked the unexpected “collaboration” between Swiggy and Blinkit. Despite the humor, many expressed concern over the increasing use of delivery disguises for criminal activity.

Ghaziabad Police Commissioner J Ravinder Goud, along with senior officers, visited the crime scene and assured the public that all efforts are being made to identify and apprehend the culprits. As the investigation continues, residents remain on edge, hoping for swift justice and improved safety measures.
